Sibling(s) Rivalry
The 186th meeting between Harvard and Dartmouth kicked off each school's 2009-10 season in Hanover, N.H. Since that century-old rivalry began and the formal beginning of Division I play in 1948, there have been thousands of hockey games. Not one, however, can match the unofficial records established in Dartmouth's Thompson Arena on that particular Friday night.
Help From Above
The Greeks learned to hate it. Aristotle wrote severely of it. Later generations, counting Shakespeare and Nietzsche among their ranks, followed suit in railing against the deus ex machina, the ancient Greek plot device in which a crane — literally, ‘the machine of God’ — would either pluck a character off the stage and out of trouble or help a god descend to the rescue. Enter Jaro Zawislan of Cornell Men's Soccer.
Banker-Doctor
Over a decade ago, former Princeton basketball players Steve Goodrich and Gabe Lewullis (pic.) hooked up to complete one of the most memorable moments in NCAA tournament history. Since then, the two have taken very different paths to post-basketball success.
Protection Project
Hall-of-Famer Mark Messier spoke to Harvard Men's ice hockey team members about a collaboration aimed at addressing concussions. The campaign is an all-encompassing grassroots and educational initiative which aims to change priorities in the sport by encouraging athletes to play smart and choose the best protective equipment.
