BRONX, N.Y. — Princeton's bid for a fourth straight men's Heps championship came to a narrow end as the Columbia Lions, led by a fifth-place finish from Brendan Martin, defeated the Tigers by a single point. The 60-61 score was the closest Heps finish since 1972 (when Harvard and Navy tied). It is the Lions' first team victory since Gerry Groothuis led the charge in 2004.
Individually, Harvard junior Dan Chenoweth — sporting pomegranate red shoes — became the first Crimson runner to win the men's Heps Championship since 1995 (Ian Carswell) with Brown senior Christian Escareno in second and Princeton sophomore Brian Leung in third.
Rounding out the Ivy League first-teamers were Cornell junior Nate Edelman, Columbia's Martin, Princeton sophomore Donn Cabral and Brown senior Duriel Hardy.
