CO-PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
Sophomore Kelly Hood (Berlin, N.H.) led the Big Green to two wins last week with one coming against #19 UMass and a Ivy victory over Harvard on Saturday. She posted two goals and added an assist in the 6-3 impressive win over the Minutewomen on Wednesday. Hood followed that up with a record-breaking performance at Harvard in the 5-3 win for the Big Green. Hood eclipsed the school record for points in a season in the first half on her 17th goal of the year to give her 42 points. The record of 41 was held by Kim Jenkin '02 and Lauren Scopaz '00, which came back in 1999. Also with her 17th score she is one goal away from tying Jenkin for most goals in a
season.
Sophomore Katie Reinprecht (North Wales, Pa.) had a goal and three assists to help lead Princeton to a 10-1 win over Cornell. The win clinched Princeton’s fifth-straight Ivy League championship. Reinprecht scored the game’s first goal and assisted on the team’s second, third and fifth goals. Her three assists marked the most for a Princeton player in a single game since the 2000 season and she is just the seventh Tiger to have at least three assists in a game. Reinprecht now has 12 goals and 12 assists this season for 26 points to rank second on the team in scoring.
CO-ROOKIES OF THE WEEK
Freshman Samantha McPherson (Ventura, Calif.) had a great week for the Big Green as Dartmouth went 2-0. McPherson tallied three goals with two coming in a dominant performance against #19 UMass in a 6-3 win. She then added her fifth of the season in a 5-3 win over the Crimson on Saturday to help the Big Green reach four Ivy wins. She is fourth on the team in goals and leads all freshman on the Big Green with 11 points.
Michelle Cesan (Harding, N.J.) scored a career high three goals and added an assist in Princeton’s 10-1 win over Cornell to clinch the Ivy League title. Cesan scored Princeton’s second, third and sixth goals in the win, and had an assist on the fourth. Cesan now has eight goals and eight assists for 24 points to rank third on the team in scoring.
THE HONOR ROLL
Sophomore forward Leslie Springmeyer (New Vernon, N.J.) led
Brown to a 4-2 win over Holy Cross with a goal and two assists, as the Bears
twice came back from a one-goal deficit and then broke a 2-2 tie with a pair
of second half goals. Springmeyer assisted goals that tied the game at 2-2
and then gave Brown a 3-2 lead. Her goal with 9:26 remaining but the game
away for Brown. Springmeyer now ranks 10th all-time at Brown with 17 career
goals, 8th all-time at Brown with 14 career assists, and 9th all-time at
Brown with 48 career points. In addition, her nine assists this season is
6th all-time.
Harvard's Carly Dickson (Victoria, British Columbia) notched a goal and an assist in the Crimson's 5-3 loss to Dartmouth Saturday. Her goal got Harvard back in the game, cutting the Big Green's lead to two at halftime. She then assisted on Katelin Wahl's goal to bring the Crimson within a goal in the second half. Dickson ranks second on the team with 14 points and leads the squad with six assists.
Senior forward Ashley McCauley (Rye, N.Y.) made the most of her only shot on goal Sunday afternoon, delivering the game-winning goal in overtime for a 2-1 win at Columbia. This was the second year in a row McCauley has beaten the Lions with a goal in overtime. She is now one point away from tying Yale’s career points record (98, Emily Montgomery ’78). With 13 goals this season, McCauley leads the team and is third in the Ivy League. She is just the second player in Yale field hockey history to have three double-digit goal seasons. She also has a team-high 30 points, fourth in the Ivy League. A second team All-Region and unanimous first team All-Ivy League selection last season, she is four goals away from the school goals record.
Senior back Katie Burke (Blue Bell, Pa.) scored her first two goals of the season in Penn’s 4-0 win over Brown. As a result of a penalty corner in the 49th minute, Burke broke the 0-0 stalemate with her first goal of the afternoon. The score sparked a Quaker run in which Penn netted four goals in just over 14 minutes of play. Burke found the back of the cage again in the 61st minute. She was also a strong contributor in shutting out the Bears on the defensive end.
Columbia sophomore Janelle Greene (Ann Arbor, Mich.) was given the difficult task to mark up on Yale’s Ashley McCauley in Sunday’s game, and proved to be more than up to the challenge. She shut the Bulldog down entirely during 70 minutes of regulation, not allowing her one shot. In overtime, McCauley managed to get a single shot that proved to be the game winner in a flurry in front of the cage. Greene has had a breakout season for the Lions this year, starting 14 games on defense after appearing in just one game as a first-year.
