Joey Yenne, Harvard (Junior, Forward, St. Cloud, Minn)
Yenne had a pair of goals and two assists against Vermont in a season
opening win, a pair of assists in a shutout win over Central
Connecticut, and scored the lone goal in a tough 2-1 loss to Penn
State. Yenne now has moved into fifth place on the Harvard career
lists in all three major categories - goals (25), assists (21) and
points (71). Yenne has 10 points (3 goals, 4 assists) already this
season.

Maura Gallagher, Princeton ( Midfielder, Cranbury, N.J.)
Gallagher saved all her heroics for the second halves. She tallied
one goal and one assist in the two games that Princeton had this past
week. Gallagher, in her first collegiate game, assisted Krista Ariss
on the game winning goal against the Pirates of Seton Hall. In
Princeton's Ivy opener against Yale, Gallagher scored at 68:10 off a
corner kick to break a scoreless tie. The Tigers won the game,
2-0.

Micheala Sewall (Brown, Junior, Midfielder, Newton, Mass.)
In four games with four starts, Sewall had 1-3-5 totals. She assisted
on the lone Brown goal in a 1-1 tie with Holy Cross last Sunday. This
past weekend at the ECAC Tournament on Cape Cod, Sewall scored her
first career goal, Brown's second of the game, in a 5-0 win over
Fairfield, and added an assist on the fifth goal of the game for a
1-1-3 outing. Named one of two (one from each team) ECAC Hy-line
Cruises Players of the Game after Sunday's victory of Colgate.
Tara Davis (Columbia, Junior, Midfielder, East Brunswick,
N.J.)
Davis assisted on the team's goal vs. Cornell, and scored in the
Lions' 3-2 victory over Colgate.
Phela Townsend (Cornell, Freshman, Back, Stafford, Va.)
Townsend broke a 1-1 tie against Columbia with the game-winning goal
to give the Big Red a victory in its Ivy opener. The freshman slid a
shot to the near post on the ground after her classmate, Kara

Mary McVeigh (Dartmouth, Senior, Midfielder, Northampton,
Mass.)
McVeigh scored a goal and tallied two assists as Dartmouth opened
with a 1-2-1 record. The Northampton, Mass., native scored a goal and
added an assist in Dartmouth's 2-1 win over UNH.
Katie Shields (Harvard, Freshman, Goalkeeper, Dana Point,
Calif.)
Shields was named to the Harvard Invitational All-Tournament Team for
her outstanding efforts in the two games. She picked up her first
collegiate shutout on Friday, a 4-0 win over central Connecticut in
which she made three saves. She came back on Sunday to make 12 stops
- seven in the second half - as the Crimson dropped a tough 2-1
decision to sixth-ranked Penn State. Shields picked up her first
collegiate victory last Saturday afternoon at Vermont.
Katy Cross (Penn, Sophomore, Forward, Claremont, Calif.)
Cross notched three goals and two assists in her last two games
giving her eight points this season.
The Bears have started off the 2002 season with a 2-1-1 record ...
After dropping their season-opener to UNH, the Bears have gone 2-0-1
in their last three games and have won two straight ... In Friday's
5-0 win over Fairfield, Brown had five different goal scorers
including junior Michaela Sewall (Newton, Mass.) and freshman Meghan
Schreck (Hudson, Mass.) each with their first career goals ...
Freshman Tory Manchester (Costa Mesa, Calif.) notched her first
career goal on Sunday against Colgate, while classmate Kim LaVere
(Chatsworth, Calif.) tallied her first collegiate point with an
assist against Fairfield, for a total of four "career firsts" over
the weekend ... Schreck added an assist to her numbers with a helper
on Manchester's goal against Colgate ... Sewall has notched at least
one point in the last three games with an assist on Sennott's goal
against Holy Cross, a goal and an assist on Schreck's goal against
Fairfield, and an assist on the winning goal against Colgate, earning
ECAC Hy-line Cruises Player of the Game honors against Colgate ...
Junior Kristin Ferrell (Concord, Mass.) earned ECAC Hy-line Cruises
Player of the Game recognition after the Fairfield victory. Senior
Caitlin Carey (Boxford, Mass.) also had a big weekend for the Bears
... She notched the game-winner against Fairfield, while posting an
assist on the game-tying goal against Colgate with 22:35 remaining
and scoring the winning goal with 13:00 left in the game ... Junior
Sarah Gervais (Harrisville, R.I.) made a season-high 11 saves in
Brown's tie with Holy Cross and combined with sophomore Kim Boortz
(Corona del Mar, Calif.) in Friday's shutout win over Fairfield.
Brianne Pardini (Huntington Station, N.Y.) had the Light Blue's
game-winning goal vs. Colgate. She also added an assist in the 3-0
win ... Sophomore Lauren Nussbaum (Northridge, Calif.) had her first
collegiate point with an assist at Colgate ... Junior Tara Davis
(East Brunswick, N.J.) notched an assist in the win over Colgate and
scored the Lion's lone goal versus Cornell.
The Big Red opened the 2002 season with a pair of wins, including a
2-1 Ivy win against Columbia ... Freshman Phela Townsend (Stafford,
Va.) scored the game-winner against the Lions on an assist from
fellow freshman Kara Ishikawa (Mililani, Hawaii) ... In Cornell's
season opening 1-0 win at Stony Brook, junior Emily Knight broke a
scoreless tie with a goal off a nice pass from freshman Shannon
Fraser (Hamilton, N.Y.) ... Sophomore Katie Thomas (Northridge,
Calif.) combined to make 11 saves in the two games while allowing
only one goal ... Cornell's 2-0 start is the program's best since the
team opened 1992 with five straight wins.
The Big Green opened its season with a 1-2-1 record, defeating New
Hampshire ... The Big Green fell to an undefeated Iowa squad, 3-1,
and lost to No. 10 Virginia, 3-1 ... Mary McVeigh (Northampton,
Mass.) tallied a goal and an assist in the win over the Wildcats ...
She has moved into a tie for 10th place on the school's all-time
scoring list with 44 points ... Sophomore Ane Marbarger (St. Louis,
Mo.) leads the Big Green with a 1.35 GAA.
The Harvard women started the season off with a 2-1 record, the lone
loss coming to sixth-ranked Penn State, 2-1, in the Harvard
Invitational ... Freshman Katie Shields (Dana Point, Calif.) was
amazing, making 12 saves to keep the Nitttany Lion attack at bay ...
Joey Yenne (St. Cloud, Minn.) has cemented herself in the Harvard
scoring annals ranking fifth in goals, points, and assists ... The
team will continue its stiff competition, as it will travel to
Seattle for the Nike/Husky Invitational at the University of
Washington ... The Crimson will play the host Huskies as well as
Portland - both of which are top-15 teams.
With their 3-1 win at Sunday's home opener over Monmouth, the Quakers
are at 2-2 early in the season ... Great contributions from rookies
Carolyn Cross (Williamsburg, Va.) and Jenna Linden (Bethesda, Md.)
have sparked the Quakers ... Linden assisted on Katy Cross'
(Claremont, Calif.) goal against Monmouth for her first collegiate
point and Carolyn Cross added her first collegiate goal in the
Monmouth win ... Sophomore Devon Sibole (Belleair, Fla.) added her
first goal of the season late in the second half in the win over
Monmouth ... Katy Cross has a team leading eight points so far this
season (3 goals, 2 assists).
Princeton is 2-0-0 on the young season, having defeated Seton Hall
2-1 and Ivy rival Yale 2-0. Sophomore Esmeralda Negron (Harrington
Park, N.J.) scored at 9:15 against Seton Hall as Princeton took a
1-0 lead ... The Pirates were able to even the match but senior
Krista Ariss (Burlington, Ont.) put the Tigers up 2-1 on a ball from
freshman Maura Gallagher (Cranford, N.J.) ... Gallagher scored the
go-ahead goal against the Bulldogs of Yale midway through the second
half ... Sophomore Kristina Fontanez (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) put the
Tigers up 2-0 as Princeton captured its first league victory of the
season ... Junior Jean Poster (Trumbull, Conn.) earned the shutout
against Yale.
Sophomore Eleni Benson (Willington, Conn.) has assisted on both
Yale goals this season, which have each been scored by freshmen --
Laurel Karnes (Omaha, Neb.) vs. La Salle and Jamie Ortega (San Diego,
Calif.) vs. Sacred Heart ... Karnes and Ortega were two of three
freshmen to start the season opener for the Bulldogs. The other was
April Siuda (Alpharetta, Ga.) ... Ortega made her first career goal a
big one, the game-winner in Yale's 1-0 victory over Sacred Heart ...
It came with less than two minutes remaining in the first half ...
Ortega comes to Yale with impressive credentials ... She was a
two-time all-state selection at Mount Carmel High School in San Diego
... Senior Lindsay Sabel (Danbury, Conn.) has started strong in goal
for the Bulldogs again this year.
