Ivy Men's Regional Qualifiers Preview

2003 East Region Men's Qualifiers

With the NCAA moving to regional qualifying, things are a little different than in past years. Not to worry, as the Ivy League will send over 130 student-athletes to George Mason University to see who will qualify for the NCAA Championships at Hornet Stadium on the campus of Cal-State Sacramento June 11-14th.

100 Meters

Christopher Lambert, Harvard, 10.30

Chris Lambert

Of the 28 qualifiers in this event, Lambert's time is the third best. He set the time at this year's Heptagonal Championships.

200 Meters

Cameron Atkinson, Princeton, 21.53

A two-sport athlete, Atkinson qualifies as the conference champion in this event after finishing first at Heps.

800 Meters

Sam Burley, Penn, 1:48.45

Burley, who finished second in last year's 800m at NCAAs, returns after being named the Outstanding Performer of the Meet at Outdoor Heps this year and posting the fourth-best 800m qualifying time in the region. His sub-1:46 at NCAAs last year was the fastest by an American collegian in 2002.

Of the three Ivy competitors, Thomas and Laine finished ahead of Kaune at the Heptagonal Championships, but its the Cornell junior who had the best qualifying jump of the trio with his showing at the Long Beach Classic in late March.

Josh McCaughey

Lyons sixth best qualifying time, which he set on the last day of the Penn Relays, was just .03m longer than his toss that clinched him the Heptagonal Games title, well ahead of Rocky Craley's 17.10m toss.

McCaughey, the three time Heptagonal Champion in the Hammer Throw, qualified with the seventh-best overall throw out of the 36 participants in this event.
