After sweeping through the Ivy League season with a perfect 6-0 record, the Ivy-champion Cornell Big Red have placed six members on the men's lacrosse All-Ivy first team. Big Red senior attack Sean Greenhalgh (St. Catharines, Ontario) leads the way for the NCAA Tournament bound squad, picking the League's Player of the Year award after a vote by the League's eight head coaches.
Greenhalgh, also a unanimous first-team selection, was part of a high-powered Cornell offense that ranked second in the country after averaging 12.08 goals per game. With 30 goals an 12 assists this year, including 17 goals and four assists in Ivy action, Greenhalgh is one of three Big Red players to reach the 40-point mark this season. He also leads all active Division I players in career goals with 132 and is tied for 11th in the nation this spring in goals per game at 2.50.
Cornell senior Kevin Nee (Canton, N.Y.) joins Greenhalgh as a first-team attack. Nee turned in a spectacular Ivy season, totaling 32 points, including 25 goals during the six-game schedule, while posting a shooting percentage of 59.5. His goal total is the highest in League play since 1995, when Harvard's Jamie Ames scored 27 times against conference opponents. He is among the NCAA leaders in goals per game (fifth, 2.75) and points per game (11th, 3.67).
Cornell midfielder Joe Boulukos (Huntington, N.Y.) joins Greenhalgh and Nee on the first team. The junior tallied 26 goals and 14 assists overall this season. Boulukos is a finalist for the 2005 Tewaarton Award and the only Ivy Leaguer among the group of 16.
Big Red senior Justin Redd (Towson, Md.) was named to the first team as a midfielder. With 18 assists this season, Redd became the 30th player in Big Red history to reach the 100-point mark.
Goaltender Matt McMonagle ( Bryn Mawr, Pa.) and defenseman Kyle Georgala (Mahopac, N.Y.) are the final members of the Big Red on the first team. McMonagle had a 7.56 goals against average and is ranked 12th in the country in that category. McMonagle improved his performance during Ivy play, holding opponents to just 5.8 tallies per contest.
Georgala led a Big Red defense that allowed just 35 goals in Ivy contests and 89 overall.
Dartmouth had three representatives on the first team, including two unanimous selections -- senior midfielder Ben Grinnell (Waccabuc, N.Y.) and senior defender Pat Keeley (Potomac, Md.).
Grinnell, a three-time All-Ivy first-teamer, is tied for second on the Dartmouth squad with 39 points (19 goals, 20 assists).
Keeley is one of Dartmouth's top defenders and is typically assigned to the opposing team's top attacking player. A third team preseason All-America pick, he earned first team All-Ivy honors in both 2003 and 2004.
Junior attack Jamie Coffin (Greenwich, Conn.) ranks second in the League in points per game in Ivy contests with 3.67 (12 goals, 10 assists). He had five hat tricks this season including a season-high five goals against Quinnipiac on March 5. He is tied for 18th in the nation with 2.33 goals per game and tied for 12th in points per game with 3.67.
Yale senior attack Seth Goldberg (Syracuse, N.Y.) earns first-team honors after averaging 2.83 goals and 3.00 points per game for the Bulldogs in Ivy contests. He was named Ivy Player of the Week on March 21 after having a five-point afternoon (4 goals, 1 assist) as the Bulldogs opened the Ivy League season with a 15-7 win at Penn.
Princeton senior defemseman Oliver Barry (New York, N.Y.) rounds out the first team. Barry is a two-time first-team selection. He led a Tiger defense that ranked second in the Ivies in goals allowed in League games with 47.
Barry's defensive teammate at Princeton, Dan Cocoziello (Oldwick, N.J.), was named the League's top rookie.
