On the field, the Cornell men’s lacrosse team defeated Brown Saturday to wrap up at least a share of the 2006 Ivy League title. Off the field, the team and its alumni are doing even better things.
Cornell alumnus Sean Greenhalgh ’05 was awarded the National Lacrosse League Sportsmanship Award Monday afternoon. Greenhalgh, the 2005 Ivy Player of the Year, led the Philadelphia Wings of the NLL with 31 goals in 16 games this season and was tied for the team lead with 73 points. He collected eight weekly awards throughout the season.
The Ontario native was assessed only two penalties for a total of four penalty minutes during the season. Lacrosse legend Gary Gait won the sportsmanship award in 2004 and 2005.
And on Sunday the current members of the team, in conjunction with Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity and the Family Reading Partnership, hosted the second annual 21 Run, a 5K run/walk to honor the memory of former Big Red lacrosse player, George Boiardi.
The day featured a 5K race, a family storybook walk, live entertainment, food and prizes. Over 350 people participated in the event, which was held at the Cornell Plantations, and raised more than $10,000 to support and promote children's literacy in the Ithaca community through the Family Reading Partnership.
