IVY LEAGUE WEEKLY RELEASE
Volume 2, September 12, 2006

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Brown junior goalie Kristen Hodvance (Emmaus, Pa.) remained undefeated this season with 10 saves, including seven in the first half, in a 2-0 shutout over Dartmouth as the Bears opened their Ivy season with a victory for the first time since 2003. She made several saves from point-blank range to earn the win. On the season, she has posted a 1.29 goals against average with a .889 save percentage.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Freshman Ariel Leon (Bethesda, Md.) scored her first goal of the season in Columbia’s 8-1 rout of St. Francis/Pa. Leon’s goal came in the 23rd minute of the first win of the season for Columbia. Leon, who has started all four games of her collegiate career, was the first freshman to score this season for the Lions.

THE HONOR ROLL
Sophomore attack Katie Kinzer (Lake Bluff, Ill.) scored her first two goals of the season over the weekend. On Saturday at Yale, her goal with 24 minutes remaining broke the 1-1 tie and sealed the 2-1 victory for the Tigers. Kinzer also scored the game-winning goal against No. 17 William & Mary with minutes remaining in the game.

Junior midfielder Meghan Rose (Garden City, N.Y..) played a crucial role in Penn’s 2-0 victory over Harvard in this weekend’s Ivy opener. Rose had an assist in what was the team’s first goal of the season and later scored on a penalty stroke to seal the victory for the Quakers.

Sophomore Alyssa DePaola (Wall, N.J.) scored 13 minutes into the contest and never looked back as the Big Red went on to defeat Columbia, 3-0, on Friday evening. Cornell has opened the season with three straight victories for the first time since 1995. Along with the game-winning goal, DePaola also registered the Big Red's final goal of the contest as she found the back of the net in the 48th minute of play.

Yale junior forward Harriet Thayer (Briarcliff, N.Y.) generated three of the team’s 11 total shots on goal over the course of two games. Thayer scored Yale’s lone goal for the week Saturday in a 2-1 loss to Princeton, and also was a part of Yale’s defensive penalty corner unit that limited the Tigers to just one goal on 16 corners.

Columbia senior Ramie Merrill (Cornville, Maine) scored two goals and added an assist in the Lions’ 8-1 rout over St. Francis/Pa. The eight goals scored ties the Columbia record for most goals scored in a game. Merrill now leads the team in scoring.
