PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Brown senior first/second baseman Bryan Tews [Park Ridge, Ill.] had four hits in seven at bats, posting team highs with a .571 average, .625 on-base percentage, 1.571 slugging average, two home runs and 11 total bases. In the nightcap with Dartmouth, Tews ripped both of his homers in the 10-3 Brown win, going three-for-three with a walk and a sacrifice bunt.

PITCHER & ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Harvard freshman pitcher Max Perlman [Longwood, Fla.] threw a complete game three-hitter in a 6-0 win over Yale on Saturday. Perlman struck out eight batters while allowing just the three hits in the victory.

THE HONOR ROLL

Columbia junior pitcher John Baumann [Westport, Conn.] pitched a nine-inning complete game in game two at Princeton on Saturday, allowing only two hits and one earned run on 104 pitches. He struck out five batters in the 3-2 win and is now 3-1 on the season.

Harvard senior second baseman Brendan Byrne [Milton, Mass.] batted .462 with a .563 on-base-percentage in four games [three wins]. He was two-for-four and plated the eventual game-winning runs with a two-run single at Rhode Island on Tuesday.

Brown senior pitcher Jeff Dietz [Altamonte Springs, Fla.] was lights out against Dartmouth on Saturday, picking up his third complete game victory of the year in a 20-2 Brown win. After giving up a double and a home run to the first two Dartmouth batters he allowed just three hits and no walks, striking out 11 Big Green batters. Dietz is 3-0 in the Ivy League with three complete games.

Columbia freshman catcher Dean Forthun [Glendora, Calif.] was hit .429 with two RBI, a double and a stolen base against Princeton. Forthun is now hitting .286 on the season and has thrown out 41.9 percent of potential base stealers.

Penn freshman shortstop William Gordon [LaGrange, Ga.] batted .300 with a .600 slugging percentage in three games last week. With the scored tied at 2-2 in the fifth, he delivered a two run single up the middle that gave the Quakers a 4-2 lead over Cornell, and ripped a solo home run in the nightcap.

Harvard junior pitcher Shawn Haviland [Farmington, Conn.] threw eight shutout innings against Yale, the Ivy League’s leading offensive team entering the weekend. Haviland scattered seven hits while striking out seven in the win.

Cornell freshman pitcher Matt Hill [Export, Pa.] picked up the win on Tuesday against Binghamton in his first college start. He worked five innings of one-hit ball, allowed one walk, and struck out two.

Penn freshman pitcher Todd Roth [Lanoka Harbor, N.J.] hurled his fifth consecutive complete game Saturday, beating Cornell, 4-2. Roth gave up two runs early and then retired 14 of the final 16 batters he faced, allowing just two base runners over the final four innings.

Harvard junior shortstop Matt Vance [Solana Beach, Calif.] batted .333 with two home runs and nine RBI in a 3-1 week. He connected for a three-run homer against both Rhode Island and Boston College before going three-for-seven with three RBI in a sweep of Yale on Saturday.

Yale sophomore pitcher Chris Walsh [Westwood, Mass.] tossed six innings of relief against Sacred Heart and Harvard, giving up just five hits and one run while striking out three.

Columbia sophomore first-baseman Ron Williams [Fairfield, Conn.] hit .538 on the week with two RBI and two runs scored. Williams also hit a two-run home run in game one of the Princeton series and is now leading the team with a .364 batting average. He is tied with the team lead with 28 RBI.

Dartmouth freshman infielder James Wren [Granbury, Texas] was a bright spot in the Big Green’s offense this weekend going three-for-seven at the plate, recording three RBI and his first collegiate homer. He also scored three of the team’s five runs on the weekend, as the squad dropped two games to Brown.
