IVY LEAGUE WEEKLY RELEASE

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Harvard junior outfielder Matt Vance (Solana Beach, Calif.) hit .688 (11-16) in four games at Brown. He reached base in 13-of-18 plate appearances on two doubles, a home run and seven RBI to go with five runs. He had multiple hits in all four games and was 3-for-4 in three of the games including both Harvard victories.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Penn freshman pitcher Todd Roth [Lanoka Harbor, N.J.] allowed just one run in nine innings pitched this week. In a relief appearance Wednesday at Rider, he allowed one hit in two innings of work, fanning three. Roth pitched his sixth consecutive complete game in Saturday's 11-1 win over Princeton, scattering seven hits while not walking any to improve to 6-1 on the season.

 

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Cornell freshman first baseman/designated hitter Justin Milo [Eden Prairie, Minn.] continued his hot hitting ways over the weekend at Columbia, posting a .467 average in four starts, scoring three times (including twice in Cornell's win on Sunday) with five doubles.

THE HONOR ROLL

Penn junior first baseman Kyle Armeny [Florham Park, N.J.] batted .600 (12-for-20) this week and slugged home runs in three consecutive games to boost his team lead to eight. He went- 4-for-5 Tuesday versus Lehigh, and in Saturday's doubleheader sweep of Princeton he went 5-for-8 with three RBI and two runs scored.

Yale sophomore outfielder/catcher Ryan Lavarnway (Woodland Hills, Calif.) hit .556 (10-for-18) and homered in three straight games. His RBI double in game one on Sunday gave him 16 for the season, tying the single-season Yale record.

Columbia junior pitcher John Baumann (Westport, Conn.) had a complete game shutout victory (5-0) against Cornell on April 21, allowing seven hits and striking out five. In 43 innings of Ivy play Baumann has allowed only 28 hits, 13 earned runs and 10 walks, while batters are only hitting .187 against him.

Harvard sophomore pitcher Adam Cole (Sudbury, Mass.) did not surrender a hit in four relief appearances during the week with four strikeouts covering 3.2 innings, including a scoreless inning against Boston College and ninth inning holds of both Harvard victories at Brown.

Cornell sophomore shortstop Scott Hardinger [Lynden, Wash.] helped the Big Red to its win on Sunday at Columbia, starting three separate two-out rallies in the contest. He went 2-for-3 with a pair of walks, and scored three times in the game while driving in a run. For the week, he was 4-for-11 with four runs scored and one RBI.

Yale sophomore pitcher Brandon Josselyn (Hanson, Mass.) threw a seven-inning, complete game five-hitter in game on against Dartmouth on Saturday to pick up his team-leading third win of the season, and pitched three scoreless innings against Fairfield on Wednesday.

Brown sophomore third baseman Robert Papenhause [Hillsborough, CA] blasted three home runs and went 5-for-12 against Harvard. He tied the second game on Saturday with an eighth inning grand slam and had a three-run shot in the sixth inning of Sunday’s first game.

Harvard freshman pitcher Max Perlman [Longwood, Fla.] earned a complete game victory against Brown, the league’s top offensive team, with two earned runs against and four strikeouts in the opener on Saturday.

Princeton senior second baseman Aaron Prince [Cincinnati, Ohio] batted .357 during the week for the Tigers, with 10 hits in 28 at bats, including a double, two triples, 6 RBIs, and 7 runs scored.

Yale senior first baseman Marc Sawyer (Largo, Fla.) set Yale career records for hits and doubles while batting .500 (10-for-20) in six games. For the week, Sawyer had four doubles and scored five runs.
