The Princeton men completed the school's second straight sweep at the Ivy League Heptagonals Cross Country Championships, finishing with 38 points — 29 ahead of second-place Cornell.
Princeton junior Michael Maag was the individual champion, charting the five-mile course in 24:37.9, about four seconds ahead of second-place Sage Canaday, a senior from Cornell (24:41.6). Maag is Princeton's first individual champion since Paul Morrison in 1999.
Princeton distance coach Steve Dolan — who noted the unpredictability of the Heps' championships — was happy for Maag's title. "Michael is one of the hardest workers and a consummate team player. No one is more deserving than Michael."
After Princeton, the team scoring was Cornell (67), Penn (101), Columbia (108), Harvard (117), Brown (136), Dartmouth (148) and Yale (170). Second place is Cornell's best showing since claiming the title in 1993.
"If you had asked me 365 days ago what was going to happen," said Cornell distance coach Robert Johnson, "I'd have said that it would be Princeton first and Cornell second. We are happy with second. And I would like to see Princeton make Nationals."
Behind Maag and Canaday were Princeton sophomore Ben Sitler (24:43.2), Penn senior Reid McEwen (24:45.8) and Dartmouth senior Harry Norton (24:46.8).
Rounding out the top 10 were Princeton's David Nightingale (24:48.5), Penn's Brian Goldberg (24:51.1), Cornell's Zac Hine (24:55.9), Brown's Christian Escareno (25:03.9) and Cornell's Jimmy Wyner (25:06.2).
Harvard's Daniel Chenoweth, at 16th, was the top finisher among freshmen.
