NEWTON, Mass. – In the first round of the NCAA tournament, Harvard fell to No. 7 Boston College, the two-seed in the bracket, 1-0, Nov. 13.
Boston College notched the game’s first goal just 32 seconds in the second half. Junior Amy Caldwell tipped a cross in just inside the left post to give the Eagles the 1-0 lead. Freshman Victoria DiMartino earned an assist on the goal. Caldwell’s goal was all the offense that was needed as Boston College advanced to the next round with a 1-0 win.
The Eagles held the advantage in shots and corners in the game. Sophomore Melanie Baskind fired Harvard’s lone shot on the day.
Senior goalkeeper Lauren Mann made ten saves in the Crimson effort including a huge stop on a 1-on-1 in the first half. Mann’s counterpart, sophomore Jillian Mastroianni, made zero saves for Boston College.
With the loss, the Ivy League champion Crimson was eliminated from the NCAA tournament and finishes the season with a 9-7-1 record. Boston College, the ACC regular-season co-champions improve to 16-3-2 on the year.
