The Game
Dartmouth and New Hampshire are meeting for the 35th time with the Big Green holding a 17-15-2 series advantage ... But Dartmouth has not defeated the Wildcats in the last 16 matchups (0-14-2) ... The Big Green’s last victory over the Granite State rival was a 24-13 decision in 1976 ... A year ago, before 7,000 at the grand opening of the new-look Memorial Field, UNH receiver David Ball caught three touchdown passes, tying Jerry Rice’s Division I-AA mark of 50 as the No. 1 Wildcats won 56-14.

Record at Dartmouth • 30-39-2 [eighth season]
It looked like an enormous statement game for Dartmouth on Saturday, leading Colgate, 28-0, well into the third quarter ... But the Raiders scored 28 unanswered points to force overtime and walked off the Memorial Field turf with a 31-28 victory ... “Obviously we are disappointed with the end result today. I felt we played hard and we’re a different football team — I hope people saw that,” said Dartmouth Coach Buddy Teevens. “This kind of game rips your heart out when you put yourself in a position to achieve success. For the first time in a long time we weren’t playing catch up and we were in a position to do the things we’d talked about doing.” ... The biggest statement of a change afoot in Hanover was the play of junior running back Milan Williams [Mobile, Ala.], who rushed for a career-high 179 yards — including 111 in the first half — and scored one touchdown ... Last season, Williams rushed for a total of 175 yards for a team that barely rushed for 1,000 yards ... His effort against Colgate was the 13th-best game for a Dartmouth running back ... Dartmouth had three interceptions in the first half alone, matching its total during the entire 2006 season ... Senior wide receiver Brian Evans [Fairfield, Texas] — an All-Ivy sprinter on the Big Green track team — caught a third-quarter pass and went 60 yards for a score, the first of his Dartmouth varsity career ... He finished the game with five catches for 105 yards while senior quarterback Tom Bennewitz [Weston, Conn.] started and went the distance for his first sustained action since the Colgate matchup of 2006 ... Injured in that game, he came back to earn the starting role and completed 16-of-29 passes for 178 yards and three touchdowns.
University of New Hampshire
Head Coach • Sean McDonnell [Duke '71]
Record at UNH • 54-42 [ninth season]
New Hampshire has been a national power at the FCS level in recent years, thanks in large part to senior quarterback Ricky Santos ... Santos has been a bit of a giant killer, leading UNH to wins over Rutgers, Northwestern and Marshall in his career ... The 2006 Walter Payton Award winner has thrown more than 100 career touchdown passes, the first Colonial Athletic Association player to do so ... Santos earned the National Player of the Week Award from College Sporting News for his performance against Marshall ... That victory also vaulted his Wildcats into the Top 25 in both major polls. |
