Former Barnard fencer Erinn Smart will finally be competing in the Olympics this month, although it wonít be her first appearance at the Games. In 2000, she was an unused alternate at the Sydney Games and saw her brother, Keeth, compete for the United States. Now the two will travel together to Athens where she will compete in the women's foil competition, while he will face off with the world's best in the men's sabre.

Smart took up fencing with her brother at the Peter Westbrook Foundation in New York City. In 1996 she became the second female fencer to win three gold medals in one Junior Olympics. Smart won silver at the 2000 NCAA national championships and bronze in 2002. Now after balancing a full-time job while training for these Summer Games, Smart is ready to shine in Athens.
