Princeton Tigers host Yale Bulldogs
Live on the YES Network!
Princeton Stadium (Princeton, N.J.), 1 pm

The Game
Yale and Princeton are meeting for the 126th time with the Bulldogs holding a 67-48-10 series advantage ... This is the most often played matchup in the Ivy League and is second in Division I history behind only the Lehigh-Lafayette series ... Last year's matchup at the Yale Bowl came during a Nor'easter and, as expected, scoring was at a minimum ... In fact, Princeton led 3-0 late in the fourth quarter when Jeff Mroz (Greensburg, Pa.) found Ron Benigno (Brea, Calif.) for an 11-yard game-winning touchdown for the Elis ... Running back Robert Carr (Baytown, Texas) gained 44 of his game-best 93 yards in that final drive ... Such a long series obviously hosts a number of highlights, but no game was more entertaining than the 1981 matchup ... Princeton's Bob Holly threw for a League-record 501 yards and four TDs, but his legs were the difference as he ran in for the game-winning touchdown on the game's final play ... The 35-31 Tiger win was the first over Yale in 14 years and was the Bulldogs' lone loss that year ... For Yale, All-American Rich Diana ran a staggering 46 times for a Yale record 222 yards ... That mark stood until September 2002 when Carr went for 235 against Cornell ... Meanwhile Princeton's Derek Graham caught an Ivy-record 15 passes for 278 yards and three scores from Holly that day ... Yale played its first overtime game since the 1996 rule went into effect two weeks ago at Penn, but it wasn't Yale's first overtime game ever ... In 1881, Yale and Princeton played two extra sessions, but couldn't break the scoreless tie ... This game is the fourth of the five-game Ivy package to be shown live on the YES Network ... John Sterling will handle play-by-play with former Princeton standout Keith Elias on color commentary ... YES can be seen on DIRECTV for those subscribers with the SportsPack ... Fans can also hear the broadcasts in New Haven at NewsTalk 960 WELI with Dick Galiette and Hall of Famer Carm Cozza and in Princeton on WHWH (1350 AM) with Ed Benkin and Jerry Price on the call.

The Coaches Yale Coach Jack Siedlecki (Union '74) may just have the highest-scoring offense in League history before this season ends ... If his Bulldogs can score 68 points in the final two weeks against Princeton and Harvard, Yale will knock the 2000 Brown Bears out of the Ivy record book ... Brown averaged 37.5 points in 10 games that year while this Eli team is averaging 38.5 a game, ranked fourth nationally ... Princeton Coach Roger Hughes (Doane '82) has installed an offense that is producing passing numbers not seen at Old Nassau in the last 20 seasons ... The Tigers are averaging nearly 250 passing yards per game this season, a figure unsurpassed since 1983 when Doug Butler threw for more than 3,000 yards, the only Tiger to ever do so.

The Incidentals Yale rallied to tie or take a lead five times on Saturday against Brown, but still fell by the remarkable score of 55-44 ... The 99 points -- the most ever in the history of the Bulldog program -- included 40 in the fourth quarter ... Brown finally clinched the victory with a touchdown pass with 26 seconds to play and an interception return for a touchdown with nine seconds left ... Brown's point total was the most ever against Yale, while the Bulldogs had a scoring record for a game that was lost ... The loss spoiled a big day for senior quarterback Alvin Cowan (Austin, Texas), who threw for 381 yards and three scores while running for two others ... Cowan, second nationally in total offense at 335 yards a game, is on pace to break two Ivy season total offense records ... He needs 624 yards in the final two games to surpass former Dartmouth QB Brian Mann's season mark of 3,306 set last year ... Cowan needs 666 to set the Ivy-only season mark of 2,377 set by James Perry of Brown in 1999 ... Over the last five weeks, Cowan has averaged 399 yards of total offense per game, including three 400-yard games ... Yale, averaging 481 yards per game, hit the 500 mark last weekend … The Elis, looking for its first game without a turnover since early in the season, almost pulled it off against Brown until Cowan's pass was returned for a TD in the closing moments ... Senior tight end Nate Lawrie (Indianapolis, Ind.) became the third Yalie to haul in 100 passes with his fourth of six catches against Brown ... Now junior wideout Ralph Plumb (Portsmouth, R.I.) needs just three more to join him as the fourth ... Junior running back Robert Carr (Baytown, Texas) needs just 60 rushing yards to move into the Ivy League's all-time top 25 ... He had 94 yards against Brown to bring his career total to 2,165 ... Carr could move high up the Ivy charts before his playing days end ... If he averaged 100 yards in the remaining 12 games of his career, he would end his career as the League's fourth-leading rusher behind only Ed Marinaro, Chad Levitt and Keith Elias ... Sophomore kicker John Troost (Rockville, Md.), who missed a 50-yard attempt against Brown, did connect on a field goal -- his 11th of the season -- matching the school record with at least one in six straight games ... Troost is on pace to break the Ivy record for points by a kicker in a single season ... The record of 83 is shared by Princeton's Chris Lutz (1988) and Penn's Jason Feinberg (2000) and Troost has already scored 68 points ... It is way too early to speculate, but the sophomore has 113 career points ... The Ivy League career kicking record is 229 points, set by Brown's Sean Jensen in 2001 ... Any hopes Princeton had of winning a League title disappeared in the first half at Penn as the Quakers took a 30-0 lead at intermission ... Princeton had five turnovers in the three week preceding the Penn game, but coughed up five fumbles, losing each to the Quaker defense ... Among the few highlights in the 37-7 loss was the seventh career 100-receiving yard performance by junior wideout B.J. Szymanski (Wichita Falls, Texas) ... Despite often going for triple digits, Szymanski has never had more than seven catches in a single game ... His yards-per-catch numbers are impressive ... This year he averages 20.5 per on 31 catches, including 23.8 per on 18 in Ivy play ... His career average is 19.7 yards on 72 grabs and 21.3 on 42 Ivy catches ... That career average would be a Princeton record if he never caught another pass as a Tiger ... With just six more receptions he will move into the top 10 all-time for the Orange and Black ... Szymanski was joined by senior wideout Blair Morrison (Folsom, Calif.) with more than 100 reception yards against Penn ... It was the first time this season that two Tiger receivers had at least 100 yards receiving in the same game ... Junior tailback Jon Veach (Mount Carmel, Pa.) scored Princeton's lone touchdown of the game as he has six touchdowns in Princeton's last three games ... Princeton failed to force a turnover for the first time all year against an Ivy League team ... Freshman kicker/punter Colin McDonough (Milford, Iowa), the Ivy League leader in punting, has earned the starting role as the extra-point kicker for Princeton, and has gone 4-for-4 this season ... Junior quarterback Matt Verbit (Newtown, Pa.) moved into sixth place all-time at Princeton with 2,909 yards passing in his career ... He would need to averaged 268.5 yards passing in his final two games to tie senior teammate Dave Splithoff (Glenview, Ill.) for fifth ... A shoulder injury forced Splithoff to move to a position in the secondary ... Princeton is 2-0 in its last two contests on the YES Network, including a 34-14 win over Brown this season ... That game featured the longest play from scrimmage in League history -- a 99-yard pass play from Verbit to junior wide receiver Clinton Wu (Saratoga, Calif.).
