Former Columbia Swimmer Cristina Teuscher...

Cristina Teuscher '00 is renowned for being one of the top student-athletes in Ivy League history. The New Rochelle, N.Y. native set a number of school and League records while competing for the Columbia women’s swim team. The only women’s swimmer in Ivy League history to win an NCAA swimming championship, Teuscher never lost an individual race while at Columbia and was named the League’s Outstanding Swimmer at all four Ivy League Championship meets that she competed in. Her accomplishments, however, are even more far-reaching. She captured a gold medal in the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta as part of the U.S.’s 800-meter freestyle relay team and a bronze in the 200-meter individual medley at the 2000 Games in Sydney. Following her senior season at Columbia, she was awarded the prestigious Honda Broderick Cup recognizing her as the best collegiate female athlete in the United States.

Teuscher is now interning at the Robin Hood Foundation in New York City. The Robin Hood Foundation is a public charity with a core operation that fights poverty in the city's five boroughs. However, since the tragic events of Sept. 11th, the foundation has started a relief fund to answer to the World Trade Center attacks. Teuscher is an assistant to the managing director of the relief fund. In addition, she still trains with the U.S. National Team on occasion, usually at Colorado Springs, Colo. However, when she's home she trains with the Badger swim club at Lehman College in the Bronx, or at Suny Purchase College in Purchase, N.Y.
