HANOVER, N.H. - Continuing in their tradition
of community involvement, the Dartmouth
men's soccer team recently spent an afternoon with the third and
fourth grade
soccer teams at Thetford Elementary School.
Dartmouth soccer's involvement with Thetford Elementary dates back
to graduated
senior Derek Stenquist's '10 leadership of the Thetford mentoring
program that
pairs Dartmouth students with children at the school. Many members
of the men's
soccer team have been involved with that program and chose to take
it a step further
by running a practice for the third and fourth graders on Sept.
21.
Senior Bryan Giudicelli (Emerald Hills, Calif.) organized the event
during which
the student-athletes engaged in soccer drills and a scrimmage with
the children.
"Having members of the Dartmouth men's soccer team run a practice
for our grade
three and four boys and girls soccer teams was a wonderful event
for all involved,"
said Ted MacVeagh, coach at Thetford. "Our kids really enjoyed
having a connection
with these athletes and I think they learned a thing or two about
the game. The
enthusiasm of the Dartmouth players definitely spilled over to our
kids."
Dartmouth's players hope to continue this relationship with the
Thetford program,
sharing their passion for soccer and serving as positive role
models for the children.
