Six Ivies Named to Capital One Academic All-District At-Large Teams
2011-12 Capital One Academic All-District® At-Large Teams

PRINCETON, N.J. -- Six Ivies representing five
sports were named to the 2012 Capital One Academic
All-District® Men's and Women’s At-Large Teams, announced
by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on
Monday.
On the women's side Harvard senior lacrosse player Melanie
Baskind was joined by a pair of gymnasts, Brown senior
Katie Goddard and Cornell senior Bethany
Neczypor, on the District 1 team.
On the men's side, Cornell sophomore ice hockey player
Andy Iles joined Dartmouth senior skier
Eric Packer on the District 1 team, while
Princeton junior fencer Jonathan Yergler was named
to the District 2 squad.
Baskind earned her second CoSIDA Academic All-District honor of
2011-12, as she received Academic All-America first team accolades
in the fall as a member of the women's soccer team. In the spring,
Baskind is majoring in Neurobiology and has a 3.74 GPA. She was
named second-team All-Ivy as a midfielder on the Crimson
women’s lacrosse team.
Goddard, a member of the 2011-12 Winter Academic All-Ivy team,
served as team captain of Brown gymnastics. She was named ECAC
Scholar-Athlete of the Year and on March 13 earned ECAC Specialist
of the Week honors. Goddard tied for ninth on the floor exercise at
the ECAC Championships with a score of 9.750. She holds a 4.00 GPA
while majoring in Public Policy & American Institutions.
Neczypor is a Psychology major with a 4.01 GPA. She is a member of
Cornell’s 400 Club, which recognizes student-athletes with a
4.0 GPA. Neczypor earned USAG All-America honors on bars and beam
in 2011, becoming just the eighth Cornell gymnast to earn accolades
in multiple events in a single season.
Iles earned Cornell’s Nicky Bawlf Award as the team’s
most valuable player after posting a 19-9-7 record with a 2.12
goals against average between the pipes for the Big Red. Iles holds
3.58 grade point average wile majoring in Biological Sciences.
Packer earned the honor for the second-straight year, as he was
named to the Academic All-America At-Large Third Team last season.
The Engineering major holds a 3.86 GPA and was just as successful
on the slopes, earning All-America honors in both the 20K classic
and 10K freestyle races at the NCAA Championships.
Yergler, who has a 3.37 GPA while majoring in Psychology, became
the first Princeton fencer since 2001 to earn an NCAA individual
title when he took the epee championship.
The 2012 Capital One Academic All-District At-Large Teams,
selected by CoSIDA, recognize the nation’s top
student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and
in the classroom.
The Academic All-District honorees advance to the Capital One
Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and
third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this
month.
