Mike Hirschman Joins Ivy League Staff

PRINCETON, N.J. -- Mike Hirschman has been named an Assistant Executive Director for Communications and Championships at the Ivy League Office, beginning October 10, 2012, Robin Harris, Executive Director of the Council of Ivy League Presidents, announced today.

Hirschman comes to the Ivy League Office after serving as the Sports Information Director at UNC Greensboro for more than six years. While directing the media relations efforts at UNCG, Hirschman led a complete overhaul of the office's technology resources and implemented one of the most aggressive videostreaming plans in Division I. Close to 100 events were streamed annually each year from the Greensboro campus with nearly all of them using multiple camera setups and play-by-play talent. The media relations contact for several sports at UNCG including the national power men's soccer program and men's basketball, Hirschman also served as the Southern Conference's representative on CoSIDA's University Division FCS Management Advisory Committee.

Prior to his tenure at UNCG, Hirschman spent five years as an Assistant Sports Information Director at Delaware. He served as the media relations contact for women's basketball and softball and was a secondary contact for football, including during the Fightin' Blue Hens' national championship run in 2003. Hirschman also served as an intern at Delaware in the mid 1990s before serving three years as a Communications Assistant at the America East Conference Office and one year as Communications Director with the United Hockey League's Asheville Smoke.

Along with being active in CoSIDA, Hirschman has also been active in media relations operations at several NCAA basketball tournament venues. Over the last 10 years, he has worked both men's and women's tournament sites in Raleigh, Greensboro, Charlotte and Philadelphia and was also a key member of the media staff for Southern Conference and Colonial Athletic Association basketball tournaments.

A native of Cherry Hill, N.J., Hirschman is a long-time volunteer with Little League Baseball, Inc. A 26-year veteran as an umpire and administrator, he has umpired in six state tournaments and the 2007 Little League Baseball Southeastern Regional in St. Petersburg, Fla. He also serves as a coordinator of operations and media services for the Senior League Baseball Eastern Regional in West Deptford, N.J., each August.

A 1993 graduate of Rowan University, Hirschman has two daughters: Ashley (9) and Elizabeth (6).
