2013 NACWAA Convention Kicks Off
SAN DIEGO -- Ivy League Executive Director
Robin Harris’ successful one-year term as
president of the National Association of Collegiate Women Athletic
Administrators (NACWAA) will come to an end with a flourish at the
National Convention, which will feature a record turnout with over
700 attendees, speakers and special guests.
The event, which will take place at the Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina, was planned largely by Harris, former Cal State East Bay Athletic Director Debby De Angelis and UC San Diego’s Wendy Taylor May as well as a team of volunteers from UCLA, UC San Diego, the University of San Diego, San Diego State University, Point Loma Nazarene University, Caltech, the University of LaVerne and Alliance of Women Coaches.
It marks the largest NACWAA Convention in the organization’s 34-year meeting history, surpassing the 2012 mark of over 400 attendees.
The speakers and presenters at this year’s NACWAA Convention include keynote speaker Debi Hemmeter, Co-Founder of Lean In, Rutgers Director of Athletics Julie Hermann, former NCAA VP of Enforcement Julie Roe Lach, four-time Olympic Gold Medalist Lisa Leslie, soccer legend and Title IX advocate Julie Foudy and 2013 International Olympic Committee (IOC) Women and Sport Award recipient Marlene Bjornsrud. Joanne Pasternack, director of the San Francisco 49ers foundation and community relations, will close the convention with a general session on Tuesday afternoon
Other notable events include the Nike Lifetime Achievement, Legacy & Honor Award Luncheon, a Monday address by NCAA President Mark Emmert and the Jostens Administrator of the Year Award Luncheon, featuring emcee Beth Mowins, on Tuesday.
