Ivies in the Community - January

PRINCETON, N.J. -- Throughout the 2013-14 academic year, Ivy League student-athletes take time out of their demanding schedules to give back to their respective communities.

Each month, community initiatives and activities from each school will be featured in our Ivies in the Community spotlight on

Below is a look at what the League's student-athletes have done so far this season through the first month of the New Year:

Football Bench Presses for Cancer Research

Brown football helped raise over $10,000 for cancer research at this annual event, held in memory of former Brown football player Lawrence Rubida.

Baseball, Softball Host Level The Field Clinic
The Columbia baseball and softball programs joined forces to host an afternoon clinic for Level The Field.

Lacrosse Teams Join to Fight Depression and Bipolar Illnesses
For the fourth consecutive year, the Friends of Drew Webb and its founder Dr. David Lintner '82, completed a successful 7's for 7 Lacrosse Tournament, raising more than $55,000 to benefit the Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance Greater Houston (DBSA). The game was organized by a number of former and current Big Red lacrosse student-athletes.

Men's Ice Hockey Visits Children's Hospital at Dartmouth
The Dartmouth men's ice hockey team made its annual visit to the Children's Hospital at Dartmouth (CHaD) to deliver gifts from November's toy drive.

Track & Field Takes Their Sport to the Community
The Harvard track & field team spent Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, instructing youth from the Cambridge Jets.

Women's Basketball Aims to Take a Charge at Cancer
For the fourth straight year, the Penn women's basketball team and its fans will raise money through the Charge for a Cure program. Money is raised with every charge the Quakers take during the 2013-14 season.

Women's Ice Hockey Teams with St. Louis Blues to "White Out For Mandi
The Yale women's ice hockey team got a big assist in its efforts to honor the memory of Mandi Schwartz (1988-2011) at the annual "White Out for Mandi" game at Ingalls Rink.
