Today the NCAA released its Academic Progress Rates (APR) and the Ivy League stands atop the measurements. Twenty-nine of the League's 33 championship sports were rated: 17 of those had the nation's top progress rate and seven Ivy rankings were second nationally. The APR measures semester-by-semester progress toward graduation of every individual team in Division I.
In the 20 broad-based sports — sponsored by schools in at least 90 percent of the nation's 31 Division I conferences — the Ivy League had an average ranking of 994 (out of a possible 1,000).
That was, by a wide margin, the top figure in the nation. The Patriot League was second at 984.3 followed in order by the Atlantic Coast Conference (972.4), the Big 10 Conference (972.1) and the Atlantic 10 Conference (972.0). The rest of the top 10 included the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (969.6), the West Coast Conference (968.9), the Big East Conference (968.0), the Colonial Athletic Association (967.7) and the America East Conference (965.7).
In 20 'national' sports, the Ivy League had the nation's best APR in 15 — baseball, men's and women's basketball, women's cross country, football, men's golf, softball, men's and women's soccer, women's tennis, men's and women's indoor track and field, men's and women's outdoor track and field and volleyball.
Of the remaining five 'national' sports, the Ivy League was ranked second in four (men's cross country, men's and women's swimming and diving and men's tennis) and the stellar women's golf rating of 995.2 was third overall.
