Senior Associate Director Carolyn Campbell-McGovern

Carolyn Campbell-McGovern is the senior associate director of the Ivy League, serving
in this position since 1993. She assists the Executive Director in managing Ivy League
conference activities for 33 varsity women's and men's sports, involving more than 7000
students annually, at highly competitive levels an under stringent academic and financial
aid standards. With the Executive Director, she is responsible for conducting and
reporting at the semi-annual meetings of various conference committees, including
Presidents, Faculty Representatives, Admissions Officers, Financial Aid Officers, and
Athletic Administrators, and she serves as the Executive Director’s deputy in his absence.
Her duties have included working with representatives from each institution on issues
involving all aspects of the athletic programs, including admissions, financial aid,
eligibility, recruiting, officiating and scheduling. Campbell-McGovern directs the Ivy
League’s NCAA compliance program as well, working closely with all eight athletic
departments to ensure Ivy institutions understand and follow NCAA and Ivy rules.
Carolyn has served national sport organizations including the United States Olympic
Committee and the National Association of Collegiate Women Athletic Administrators as
a member of the Board of Directors. Currently she represents the Ivy League on the
NCAA Management Council. She was the original chair of the NCAA Women’s Ice
Hockey Committee, serving in that position for the first four years of the championship.
She completed two terms as chair of the NCAA Olympic Sports Liaison Committee.
A fine athlete in her own right, Campbell-McGovern garnered All-American status as a
lacrosse player at Bates College, where she earned her bachelors degree in English. She
then received her MBA from Temple University and served as an assistant coach to the
defending national champion Temple lacrosse team in 1985. Before joining the League in
May of 1993, Campbell-McGovern was an associate athletic director at Wellesley
College and an assistant athletic director at Dartmouth College.
Carolyn is married to William T. McGovern, Esq., Deputy Attorney General in the
Department of Criminal Justice for the state of New Jersey.
