E.J. Crawford has been named Public Information Assistant for the Ivy League, bringing with him vast experience in the world of sports journalism.
Crawford's freelance features, enterprise pieces and game stories have appeared in a number of newspapers, primarily in the New York-Washington D. C. area. Crawford spent December of 2004 in Puerto Rico covering winter baseball. His stories appeared in the New York Daily News, New York Times, Riverside (Calif.) Press-Enterprise and the Washington Times.
In 2004, Crawford was awarded first place for his portfolio in the sports writing category from the New Jersey Press Association.
A 1999 magna cum laude graduate of Bucknell University with a Bachelor of Arts in English, Crawford also worked at the student-run newspaper, The Bucknellian. During his tenure he served as the editor-in-chief, sports editor, news editor and senior editor.
Crawford continued his education at Columbia University, where he received a master's degree from the Graduate School of Journalism in 2001. While at Columbia, Crawford worked for the graduate student-run newspaper, the Bronx Beat, writing, reporting, editing and assisting with layout.
Crawford's journalistic career after Columbia began in the sports department of the daily newspaper, The Prince George's Journal, in Lanham, Md. His duties included coverage of 30 high school teams in the county.
Following his time in Maryland, Crawford arrived in Princeton, N.J., where he spent two years covering Rutgers football and basketball for the The Trentonian. He was also the beat reporter for the Trenton Thunder, the N.Y. Yankees' Double-A affiliate.
A native of Severna Park, Md., Crawford grew up playing numerous sports, including basketball, lacrosse and tennis. He now enjoys competing in Ultimate Frisbee and tennis leagues.
Crawford's duties at the Ivy League will include assisting in the management and update of the Ivy website, as well as being the main contact for men's soccer and volleyball in the fall, men's basketball and women's ice hockey in the winter, and baseball and men's lacrosse in the spring. He will also maintain the website celebrating black history in the Ivy League.
