Ivy Foursome Named to Academic All-District Squad
Four Ivy men's basketball players have been named to the the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District first team. As members, Brown's Matt Mullery, Columbia's Patrick Foley and the Cornell duo of Geoff Reeves and Chris Wroblewski are now eligible for Academic All-America consideration.

Four Ivy Women’s Hoopsters Named Academic All-District
Columbia’s Kathleen Barry and Judie Lomax, Cornell’s Virginia McMungial and Dartmouth’s Betsy Williams were named District 1 selections on the annual ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District teams for women’s basketball announced by CoSIDA.

Cornell Garners Top 25 National Ranking
The Cornell men's basketball team has become the first Ivy team since 1997-98 to sit among the nation's top 25 teams as the Big Red enter the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll today at No. 25. It is the program's first national ranking in 59 years.

Kent Austin Named 26th Football Head Coach at Cornell
Kent Austin, who spent five years as a successful coach in the Canadian Football League and the last two years as offensive coordinator at the University of Mississippi, has been named The Roger J. Weiss '61 Head Coach of Cornell Football by Andy Noel, the Meakem*Smith Director of Athletics and Physical Education.

Cornell's Jim Knowles to Lead Duke Defense
Jim Knowles '87 has resigned his position as The Roger J. Weiss '61 Coach of Football at Cornell and has accepted the defensive coordinator position at Duke University. He took over the position at his alma mater in January 2004, becoming the 25th head football coach at Cornell and posted a 26-34 record and a 16-26 mark in Ivy play in six years.

Six Ivies Named for Ice Hockey Olympic Champions
Five former players and one current Ivy League student-athlete have been named by Hockey Canada as representatives of the Canadian Women’s Team at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver, British Columbia. The host Canadians are the two-time defending Olympic Champions.

Akpan and Keat Brace for All-American; 12 All-Region
Harvard's Andre Akpan and Dartmouth's Daniel Keat were honored by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America as All-America selections for the 2009-10 season. Akpan earned his third first-team selection and Keat landed a third-team nod. In all, 12 Ivy Leaguers were recognized.

Ivies Fare Well in Women's Lacrosse Awards
The IWLCA and US Lacrosse have honored 48 student-athletes in Division I with a selection on one of the All-American teams. Six student-athletes, including two first-team selections, lead the charge for the Ivy League. The League also had 20 players selected to IWLCA Regional teams for the 2008-09 season.

Max Seibald Wins Tewaaraton Trophy
Cornell senior men's lacrosse player Max Seibald has been named the winner of the 2009 Tewaaraton Trophy, the premier award in collegiate lacrosse. He becomes Cornell’s first recipient of the award.

Cornell Takes Game Three to Win Softball Title

Cornell Emerges in Gehrig Divisional Playoff
Cornell used a flurry of offense in the early innings and strong pitching throughout to defeat Princeton, 9-0, in the Gehrig Divisional Playoff. Corey Pappel opened the game and went six strong innings, striking out 11 and allowing just two hits. The Big Red will now travel to Dartmouth for the best-of-three Ivy League Baseball Championship.

Nickerson Wins National Title at 125 lbs.
Three time All-American Troy Nickerson won the 2009 NCAA championship at 125 pounds on Saturday night with a 2-1 tie breaker win over Paul Donahoe of Edinboro. Nickerson previously placed third and second in 2007 and 2006 respectively. The Big Red finished in fifth place as a team.

Cornell's Nickerson Goes For NCAA Wrestling Title
Big Red wrestling's Troy Nickerson has advanced to his second career finals at the NCAA tournament. Nickerson defeated the defending champion Angel Escobedo of Indiana in the semifinals at 125 pounds. Cornell sits in sixth place as a team, only a half a point out of fifth.

Ivies Wrestling Well at NCAAs
After a full day of competition has been completed in St. Louis, Mo., the 20 Ivy League wrestlers have been pared down considerably. However, a handful of athletes are still competing for All-America status and individual titles.

50 Ivy Fencers Prepare for NCAA Spotlight
The NCAA Men's and Women's Fencing Committee has announced the field of 145 competitors that will participate in the 2009 National Collegiate Men's and Women's Fencing Championships. In total, 50 Ivies will be in the field at Penn State University in University Park, Pa. starting March 19th.

Field Set for Arch Madness; 20 Ivies Get Invites
The NCAA recently announced 52 at-large selections to the 2009 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships. Four Ivy Leaguers earned selections via this process and will join the 16 automatic qualifiers in St. Louis, Mo. for the Championships. Action for all 330 wrestlers in the field begins March 19th.

Cornell's Lucky Number Seven
The Big Red wrestling team won its seventh-straight Ivy title this past Saturday with a 34-9 victory over Harvard. The Big Red finished its dual season by pinning down a 12-2 record and was a perfect 5-0 against the Ancient Eight.

Cornell's Niemand Named Order of Merit Inductee
The National Wrestling Hall of Fame has announced that Cornell’s Arno Niemand ’56 has been chosen as an Order of Merit inductee. The award is given to a person who has made a significant contribution to the advancement of wrestling, other than success as an athlete or coach.

What Happens in Vegas... Makes National News
Ivy wrestlers fared very well at the 27th Annual Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational over the weekend. The League had three champions — Penn's Rollie Peterkin (125), Harvard's Corey Jantzen (141) and Cornell's Mack Lewnes (165). No. 4 ranked Cornell finished in second in the 44-team field.

Bill Walkenbach, a former player and assistant coach at Cornell, has been named the Ted Thoren Head Coach of Baseball at his alma mater. Walkenbach succeeds Tom Ford, who moved into the role of associate head coach with the Cornell baseball program.

Cornell's Halim Soars to National Title in Triple Jump
For a second year in a row, a student-athlete from Cornell has come away from the NCAA Track and Field Championships with the National title. Senior tri-captain Muhammad Halim had a remarkable series of jumps and reached a new school record (wind aided). His triumph came a year after Rayon Taylor won the title for the Big Red.

Cornell Earns Ivy Automatic NCAA Bid
With Brown’s 6-5 victory over Princeton this afternoon, the No. 8 Cornell men’s lacrosse team became the Ivy League’s automatic qualifier for the NCAA tournament by virtue of its victory over co-champs Brown last weekend.

Leen Wins National Title
Cornell 157-pounder Jordan Leen has won the national title by beating Illinois' Michael Poeta, 5-4, at the NCAA Championships in St. Louis, Mo. The No. 8 seed in the tournament completed his unlikely run by knocking off the top two seeds en route to capturing the title.

Leen Advances To National Final
Cornell junior captain Jordan Leen defeated Stanford's Josh Zupancic in the semifinals to advance to the finals at the 157-pound weight class at the NCAA Wrestling Championships in St. Louis, Mo., on Friday.

Cornell Leads EIWAs
On the first day of the EIWA Championships, Cornell and Penn have broken from the pack and look to be in fine shape for Sunday's finals. The Big Red has eight semifinalists while the Quakers boast of seven.

Cornell Takes Title
Cornell won its sixth consecutive Ivy League wrestling championship by closing the season with a 31-9 victory over Harvard. The Big Red finished unbeaten in Ivy matches and with an eight-match winning streak overall.

Cornell 2006 Senior Awards
Cornell University has awarded its coveted senior awards for the 2005-06 season and the recipients of the major awards are NFL draftee Kevin Boothe and heptathlete Jamie Greubel.

Ivy Olympics - Torino Day 5
Day 5 of the Olympics featured just one Ivy athlete in freestyle mogul skier Travis Mayer. The Cornell student, who won silver at the Salt Lake City Games, finished in seventh place just behind favorite Jeremy Bloom.

Cornell gymnast Rachel Goldberg was voted to the Verizon Academic All-American At-Large third team, making her the ninth Ivy Leaguer so named this season. The At-Large teams are comprised of crew, fencing, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, lacrosse, rifle, skiing and swimming and diving athletes.

Former Cornell hockey player Ken Dryden (pic.) and Princeton basketball player Bill Bradley are two of the Ivy League's all-time greatest athletes and most distinguished alums. Taking Down Cancer
Cornell's Adam Frey, competing against his hardest opponent ever, is still in high spirits and surrounded by people willing to help him. On July 12, the wrestling community in New Jersey came together for a clinic and exhibition match at Rider University, which netted $15,000 for Frey’s medical costs in his battle against cancer.

Big Red in Kenya
After making a splash at the NCAAs in Arkansas with two All-American performances last weekend, it’s on to Kenya, where the ‘Big Red Travel Team’ will launch projects designed to bring opportunities to Kenyan youth and their families.

Q&A With A National Champ
On Saturday Cornell's Rayon Taylor, a Clifton, N.J., native, took the final leap of his college career and soared 53 feet, 8 1/2 inches to win the NCAA triple jump championship, becoming the first Big Red athlete to win a national track title since 1951.
