Princeton Draws Texas, Heads to Austin Regional for the 2011 NCAA Division I Baseball Championship
PRINCETON, N.J. -- The 2011 Ivy League champion Princeton Tigers have been selected to the Austin Regional of the 2011 NCAA Division I Baseball Championship, and will open play Friday against host and No. 7 national seed Texas. Also selected to the Austin Regional were Texas State and Kent State.
The Tigers completed the regular season with a 23-22 overall record and a 15-5 mark in Ivy League play. Winners of the Gehrig Division by virtue of the division's best record, they returned to the Ivy League Championship series for the first time since 2006, claiming the championship over Dartmouth by winning the bookend match-ups of the three-game series.
The No. 1 seed in the Austin Region, Texas went 43-15 overall and 19-8 in Big 12 play. No. 2 regional seed Texas State went 40-21 overall and No. 3 seed Kent State enters the NCAA postseason with a 43-15 overall record.
The regional format consists of 16, four-team sites, each playing under a double-elimination format.
