Two Leaguers Named All-America

Monday, December 10, 2007

Yale junior tailback Mike McLeod (New Britain, Conn.) and Harvard senior cornerback Steven Williams (San Antonio, Texas) have been selected to the 2007 American Football Coaches Association Football Championship Subdivision All-America Team.

McLeod, a first-team All-Ivy pick for the second season, was named Ivy League Player of the Year after breaking Yale's single-season records for rushing yards and touchdowns. He became Yale's first Ivy MVP in 20 years (QB Kelly Ryan in 1987) after running for 1,619 yards and 23 TDs and leading the nation for most of the year in average yards per game. He managed these numbers despite playing the last five games with a broken bone in his toe.

Williams led the League with eight interceptions, tying Harvard's single season mark. The two-time defensive player of the week also led the nation in passes defended with 23. His final interception of his career -- in the championship-clinching victory at Yale -- gave him sole possession of the career record with 16 picks. He was selected unanimously to the All-Ivy first team by the League's coaches.
