Football Weekend Wrap-Up - October 1
Cornell and Harvard posted convincing wins while Yale suffered its first setback of the young season. Here is a quick wrap-up of the Week 3 games:
Cornell 31, Wagner 7
ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell defense forced four
turnovers, blocked two punts, sacked Wagner quarterbacks eight
times and held the Seahawks' offense to under 300 yards to propel
the home team to a 31-7 triumph on Saturday afternoon at
Schoellkopf Field. The win moved Cornell to 2-1 on the young
season, while Wagner fell to 1-4.
Lehigh 37, Yale 7
BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- After Yale closed to within
10-7 early in the second quarter, No. 13 Lehigh reeled off the
final 27 points of the game to beat the Bulldogs 37-7 Saturday
afternoon at Goodman Stadium. Yale was hurt by five turnovers,
including three fumbles lost. Mountain Hawks quarterback Chris Lum
threw for 378 yards and three touchdowns.
Harvard 31, Lafayette 3
EASTON, Pa. -- Harvard's defense dominated on
Saturday as the Crimson took down Lafayette by a score of 31-3 in a
non-conference game at Fisher Stadium.
Brown 35, Rhode Island 21 [myRITV]
PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Brown senior quarterback Kyle
Newhall-Caballero passed for two touchdowns and ran for
two more to lead Brown to a 35-21 victory over Rhode Island in the
96th battle for the Governor’s Cup. Rhode Island Governor
Lincoln Chafee, Brown Class of 1975, was on hand
and presented the Governor’s Cup to head coach Phil Estes and
the Brown team at the completion of the game.
Princeton 24, Columbia 21
PRINCETON, N.J. -- Led by 117 yards rushing by sophomore
Brian Mills, the Princeton football team won its
first game of the 2011 season 24-21 over Columbia Saturday
night.
Penn 22, Dartmouth 20 [FCS]
HANOVER, N.H. -- The Quakers scored on a touchdown pass
with just 17 seconds remaining to come back and beat Dartmouth
22-20 in the first-ever night game in Memorial Stadium's 89-year
history.
