Football Weekly Release - Week 1

Complete Ivy League Football Release in pdf format

PRINCETON, N.J. -- The 56th season of Ivy League football kicks off this weekend with eight Ivy teams opening against non-conference opponents.

SEASON OPENERS
In the past six seasons, Ivy League teams have racked up a 27-21 (.563) over the first weekend of play. League teams have combined to start a .500 record or better in four of those seasons (7-1 in 2005, 5-3 in 2006 and 2010 and 4-4 in 2008). Teams from the Ancient Eight have fared better at home over that span with a 16-8 (.667) mark, including home wins by Brown, Harvard, Penn and Yale to start the 2010 season. Five Ivy teams (Cornell, Dartmouth, Penn, Princeton and Yale) open the 2011 season in their respective home venues.

IVY LEAGUE FOOTBALL ON VERSUS
Ivy League football will be once again featured on VERSUS with a five-game schedule on the network for the 2011 season.

This year’s schedule expands to five games, up from the three Ivy football games VERSUS televised in 2010. The five-game slate marks the fourth-consecutive year Ivy League football airs on VERSUS as the network has televised 12 Ivy matchups featuring all eight schools over the past three seasons.

The 2011 Ivy League football schedule on VERSUS opens Saturday, Sept. 24, with Yale hosting Cornell in a Noon kickoff from the Yale Bowl. Two-time defending champion Penn makes its first of three-straight appearances, beginning on Saturday, Oct. 15, on the road at Columbia for the Lions’ homecoming in the only 3:30 p.m. start on the slate. The Quakers welcome Yale to Franklin Field on Saturday, Oct. 22, and then three weeks later, travel to Harvard on Saturday, Nov. 12, in games set for Noon kickoffs. The 128th edition of “The Game,” Harvard at Yale, is also set for a Noon start on Saturday, Nov. 19, to close out the schedule.

Randy Moss, a new member of NBC’s award-winning horse racing team and contributor to NFL Network, will serve as the play-by-play announcer for all VERSUS Ivy League games and will be joined in the booth by Ross Tucker as lead analyst. Carolyn Manno, sports reporter for Comcast SportsNet New England, will serve as in-game reporter.
