PRINCETON, N.J. -- The 2011 Ivy League football season comes to a close this Saturday, highlighted by the annual clash between between Harvard and Yale, simply known at "The Game."
The NBC Sports Group will air four games across all the college football properties it covers – Notre Dame, Mountain West, Pac-12, and the Ivy League -- on NBC and VERSUS this Saturday.
VERSUS will kick off the day by airing one of college football's oldest rivalries with Harvard at Yale from the Yale Bowl. Coverage will begin at Noon and include an exclusive interview with Patrick Witt, Yale's senior quarterback who decided to forgo an interview for a Rhodes Scholarship to play in his last football game for the Bulldogs. Harvard enters The Game having already clinched the 2011 League title and is trying to complete its fifth perfect season in Ivy play (1997, 2001, 2004 and 2007).
Randy Moss, a new member of NBC's award-winning horse racing team and contributor to the NFL Network, serves as the play-by-play announcer for the Ivy League games on VERSUS this season. He is joined in the booth by Ross Tucker as the lead analyst and on the sidelines by Carolyn Manno, sports reporter for Comcast SportsNet New England, as the in-game reporter.
VERSUS, to be re-branded the NBC Sports Network on Jan. 2, 2012, has aired 17 Ivy League football games featuring all eight schools over the last four seasons (2008-11).
Immediately following "The Game," VERSUS will air a Mountain West showdown between the Colorado State Rams (3-6) and No. 19 TCU Horned Frogs (8-2) at 3:30 p.m. ET. NBC will air Notre Dame (7-3) vs. Boston College (3-7) game at 4 p.m. ET as the Fighting Irish look for its fourth consecutive win. It is NBC's final Notre Dame game of the season. The quadruple-header will conclude with a Pac-12 match-up between the Colorado Buffaloes (2-9) and UCLA Bruins (5-5) on VERSUS at 7:30 p.m. ET.
VERSUS will surround its and NBC's college football game coverage this weekend with pre- and post-game coverage as well as halftime reports from NBC's Football Night in America studio (Studio 8G) at 30 Rockefeller Plaza. The coverage will be hosted by Liam McHugh with 1984 Heisman Trophy-winner Doug Flutie and Super Bowl champion and former NFL tight end Roland Williams serving as studio analysts. NBC will also present a halftime show featuring McHugh and Flutie providing scores and highlights.
In other Ivy action on the final weekend of the season, Dartmouth's Nick Schwieger and Princeton's Chuck Dibilio meet at Memorial Field to determine the League's rushing title, determined by yardage in the seven Ivy games. Schwieger, the 2010 Co-Player of the Year, looks to become the first running back to lead the League in rushing yards in back-to-back seasons since Yale's Mike McLeod did so in 2006-07. Dibilio is trying to become the first true freshman ever to accumulate the most yards on the ground in a single season. Entering Saturday's game, Schwieger has 766 yards and Dibilio has 749.
In the battle for the Trustees' Cup, Cornell at Penn, the Big Red's Jeff Mathews is poised to be just the ninth quarterback in Ivy League football history to pass for 3,000 yards in a season. Mathews enters the game just 136 yards shy of 3,000.
Brown and Columbia close out the 2011 season in Robert K. Kraft Field at Lawrence A. Wien Stadium with the Bears looking to rebound from its Week 9 home loss to Dartmouth and finish in the top half of the Ivy standings for a fifth-consecutive year while and Lions are seeking their elusive first win of the year.
