Football Ivies Grab Preseason Honors

Preseason All-Ivy Teams:

PRINCETON, N.J. -- Summertime means preseason All-America honors for Ivy League football. The recognitions continue to roll in leading into the 2012 season, which begins for the League on Saturday, Sept. 15.

So far, Harvard senior tight end/H-Back Kyle Juszczyk has been named second-team preseason All-America by The Sports Network (TSN) and Beyond College Sports Network (BCSN), third-team preseason All-America by College Sports Journal and the College Sporting News and an honorable mention by the FCS Senior Scout Bowl. In addtion, Juszczyk was included on the College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) Watch List for tight ends. In 2011, Juszczyk led all Ivy League tight ends and led Harvard receivers with 37 receptions, compiling 512 yards and a League-leading seven touchdowns.

Cornell junior quarterback Jeff Mathews, the 2011 Asa S. Bushnell Cup winner as the League's Offensive Player of Year, has earned first-team accolades from BCSN, second-team honors from College Sports Journal and College Sports Madness and was listed on the CFPA Watch List for quarterbacks. In his breakout sophomore season, Mathews set Cornell and Ivy League records for passing yardage in a game (548 yards at Penn) and season (3,412 yards), while also setting Big Red records for touchdown passes (25), total offense (3,274 yards), completion percentage (.679) and passing efficiency (162.60).
