PRINCETON, N.J. -- The second half of the Ivy League football season means only conference contests the rest of the way as the race for the title heats up with four matchups on the Week 6 slate.
Two Ivy unbeatens square off this Saturday as Princeton plays host to Harvard at 1 p.m. on ESPN3. This game sets up as the classic battle between offense vs. defense as Harvard comes in third among all NCAA Football Championship Subdivision teams in scoring offense at 41.0 points per game, while Princeton’s stingy defense is only allowing 11.6 points per contest, good for second in the nation.
Penn looks to keep its League record unblemished in a key road game at Yale set for a Noon start on the NBC Sports Network. The Quakers come in with momentum in their favor after rallying for a win over Columbia a week ago. Yale seeks to break its four-game slide and get back into the win column for the first time since its season opener.
Cornell has hopes high to stay in the Ivy title hunt at Brown, as does Dartmouth in its road matchup at Columbia, to round out the weekend schedule.
"Inside Ivy League Football," hosted by Dan
Loney and Brian Seltzer, returns for its
sixth episode on Wednesday, Oct. 17 at 7 p.m., featuring interviews
with Penn head coach Al Bagnoli, Cornell senior
wide receiver Luke Tasker, Havard senior tight end
Kyle Juszczyk and Princeton offensive coordinator
and quarterbacks coach James Perry.
"Inside Ivy League Football" is a weekly online radio
show that takes an in-depth look at all the on-field gridiron
action and all the news and notes surrounding football in the
Ancient Eight. The 10-episode show airs Wednesdays at 7 p.m. on

CO-OFFENSIVE PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
Cornell senior quarterback Chris Amrhein
(Hingham, Mass.) proved to be a capable back-up to Walter Payton
Award candidate Jeff Mathews, completing 33-of-56
passes for 523 yards for the second-best mark in school history and
the third-highest total in Ivy League history with one touchdown in
the Big Red's 41-38 win over Monmouth. Making his first career
start, Amrhein directed an offense that did not commit a turnover
despite missing the team's three-year starting center. He directed
three fourth-quarter scoring drives and completed a pass on
third-and-6 with 40 seconds left to allow Cornell to run the clock
out and preserve the win. Prior to the game, Amrhein was 2-of-5 for
nine yards with an interception.
Corner senior wide receiver Luke Tasker (East Aurora, N.Y.) caught 11 passes for a school-record 280 yards and a touchdown in the Big Red's shootout win against Monmouth. Tasker's 280 receiving yards was good for the third-highest total in Ivy League history. He hauled in a pair of 30+-yard passes inside the Monmouth five-yard line that turned into short touchdown runs during the fourth-quarter comeback. Tasker ended the day with 289 all-purpose yards, the third-best total in Cornell history.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Princeton defensive lineman Caraun Reid (Bronx,
N.Y.) led the nation's second-ranked scoring defense to the first
shutout of Brown in an Ivy League-record 162 games. Reid recorded
six total tackles, four of which were for a loss, and 2.5 sacks. He
outscored Brown on his own with a safety in the second quarter in
the 19-0 win for the Tigers.
SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Penn senior punter Scott Lopano (Southlake,
Texas) matched a career high with nine punts and still had an
impressive average of 45.4 yards per punt in the Quakers' 24-20 win
over Columbia. Five of Lopano's punts were in the first half, when
he continued to change field position and helped hold the Lions to
just six points. In the second half, three of his four punts were
downed inside the 20-yard line. Most importantly, with 4:09 left,
his final punt traveled 60 yards and was downed at the Columbia
six-yard line. From there, the Penn defense quickly forced Columbia
to punt, which set up the Quakers' game-winning drive. Lopano
finished the day with a career-high 409 punt yards, the second-most
punting yards in school history.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Princeton freshman defensive back/return specialist
Anthony Gaffney (Columbus, N.J.) took over the Ivy
League lead in interceptions with his third in the Tigers'shutout
of Brown. All three of Gaffney's picks have come in conference
play. He added five tackles, all solo ones, as well as his first
sack of the season and a pass breakup.
