PRINCETON, N.J. -- Decision 2012 for the Ivy League football gets determined once again in the Week 9 matchup between Harvard and Penn.
The red of the Crimson and the blue (and red) of the Quakers meet at Franklin Field, each with 4-1 records in conference play, in a Noon tilt in front of a national television audience on the NBC Sports Network. The winner earns at least a share of the League crown and moves its title campaign into the driver's seat for the outright championship with a win in the final game of the season.
Princeton and Yale meet for the 135th time in the second-oldest rivalry in college football history. Both teams are looking to stop two-game skids in a game to be televised by the YES Network.
Brown and Dartmouth meet at Memorial Field with the chance to ensure a winning season on the line as both teams enter the contest with identical 5-3 records.
The pride of the New York is up for grabs when Cornell and Columbia clash in the Empire State Bowl. Each team has protected its home turf since the series was officially established with the moniker in 2010.
"Inside Ivy League Football," hosted by Dan
Loney and Brian Seltzer, is back on its
regular season this Wednesday, Nov. 7, at 7 p.m. for its ninth
episode. Guests will be Cornell head coach Kent
Austin, Penn senior defensive lineman Brandon
Copeland and former Brown star Sean
Morey, who had a nine-year NFL career and now works as an
athletics administrator at Princeton.
"Inside Ivy League Football" is a weekly online radio
show that takes an in-depth look at all the on-field gridiron
action and all the news and notes surrounding football in the
Ancient Eight. The 10-episode show airs Wednesdays at 7 p.m. on
BlogTalkRadio.com (blogtalkradio.com/insideivyleaguefootball) and is
available on-demand via BlogTalkRadio and IvyLeagueSports.com.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Penn senior quarterback Billy Ragone (Chesire,
Conn.) led a game-winning drive late in the fourth quarter for the
second-straight week to propel the Quakers to a 28-21 win over
Princeton and into a first-place tie with Harvard. With the game
tied and just 6:31 remaining, Ragone led Penn 58 yards on 10 plays
and scored the game-winning touchdown on a three-yard run. On the
drive, he ran four times for 29 yards, including a 17-yard scramble
on third-and-5 from the Princeton 31-yard line. Ragone also had a
passing touchdown and finished with 92 yards through the air and 61
yards on the ground. It was his eighth career game-winning drive in
the fourth quarter or later and third this season.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Penn senior defensive lineman C.J. Mooney
(Chester Springs, Pa.) undoubtedly had the biggest play of the Ivy
League title race this season. Mooney's 15-yard interception return
for a touchdown tied the game with 7:31 left in the fourth quarter
and sparked the Quakers to a 28-21 road victory over Princeton. He
finished with a career-high four tackles and helped set up the de
facto Ivy championship game against Harvard next week. With
Princeton in full control and leading by seven midway through the
final quarter, Mooney hauled in a tipped pass and raced to the end
zone to tie the game. With momentum, the Penn defense forced a
three-and-out on the Tigers' next drive, setting up the offense to
march down the field for the go-ahead, game-winning score.
SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Brown junior placekicker Alexander Norocea
(Hermosa Beach, Calif.) connected on field goals of 37 and 46 yards
in the Bears' 20-0 win over Yale. Norocea's 46 yard field goal, his
second of that distance this season, is the 12th longest in school
history. He has connected on 9-of-11 field goals and all 20 of his
PAT attempts in 2012.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Dartmouth freshman quarterback Dalyn Williams
(Corinth, Texas), in his first collegiate start behind center,
guided the Big Green to a 44-28 victory on the road at Cornell.
Williams completed 14-of-20 passes with a pair of touchdowns for
160 yards, plus ran for 96 more on eight carries with another
score. His touchdown run was an electric 35-yard scamper in which
he evaded numerous tacklers to reach the end zone.
