Six Former Ivies Grace NFL Rosters to Start 2012 Season

PRINCETON, N.J. -- The Ivy League boasted six former standouts among the 1,696 National Football League players on active rosters to start the 2012-13 season.

In addition, four former Ivies were signed to practice squads and look for chances to make an active roster later this season.

Former Harvard star Matt Birk, embarking on his 15th NFL season and fourth with Baltimore Ravens, lead the list of former Ivy greats. Kevin Boothe (Cornell) and Zak DeOssie (Brown) enter the season back with the defending Super Bowl Champion New York Giants. Ryan Fitzpatrick (Harvard) started under center for the Buffalo Bills to kick off his eighth NFL season, while Desmond Bryant (Harvard) with the Oakland Raiders and Colin Cloherty (Brown) with the Jacksonville Jaguars began their fourth seasons in the league.
