Princeton Claims 2010 Field Hockey Title

PRINCETON, N.J. -- The sixth-ranked Princeton field hockey team scored a season-high 10 goals in a 10-0 shutout of Penn on Friday night at Class of '52 Stadium. The win secured Princeton's sixth consecutive Ivy League title and its third-straight undefeated Ivy League season.
Kathleen Sharkey led the Tigers with three goals to increase her season total to 31 and set a new Princeton single-season goal scoring mark, one better than the 30 Ilvy Friebe scored in the 2001 season. Michelle Cesan added two goals in the win and five other Tigers added goals in the win.
Jennifer made a save in the first half to earn the win, while Christina Maida stopped two shots in the second half.
Princeton outshot Penn 30-5 in the win and had seven corners to Penn's four.
Princeton improved to 13-4 overall and a perfect 7-0 in the Ivy League with the win. It was Princeton's 24th straight league win and sealed Princeton's 19th overall Ivy title and its 16th in the last 17 years.
Princeton will play in the NCAA tournament next weekend. The Tigers will find out the opponent and location of its first-round NCAA game when the tournament field is announced at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 9. The selection show will be streamed on NCAA.com and can be accessed by clicking here.
