PRINCETON, N.J. -- The chase for the 2011 Ivy title began in earnest on Saturday as League play opened with the home teams recording an emphatic 4-0 record. Kelly Hood led Dartmouth to one of the four Ivy wins on the day by scoring both goals en route to the Big Green’s 2-1 win over visiting Princeton. Also in a one-goal game, Penn edged Cornell, 1-0, for its first win of the year. Emily Corcoran scored at 43:14 and goalkeeper Kieran Sweeney made nine saves in the Quaker victory.
Elsewhere, Yale turned in a 5-1 win over Harvard and Columbia earned a 3-1 win against Brown. Emily Shuckert’s two goals led a powerful Bulldog attack that netted five goals and forced Crimson goalkeepers Cynthia Tassopoulos and Jenn Hatfield into making 20 saves. After trailing 1-0 at halftime, three different Lions scored in the win over the Bears, including a game-tying goal by Gabby Kozlowski.
Dartmouth added a non-conference win over Bryant, 5-2 for a two-win week. With a 9-1 win over Sacred Heart, Yale also turned in a two-win week. After the narrow defeat to Penn, Cornell rallied behind senior goalkeeper Alex Botte’s eight saves for a 2-0 shutout over St. Francis (Pa.) on Sunday.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Dartmouth senior midfielder Kelly Hood (Berlin, N.H.) led the Big Green to a perfect 2-0 record last week, including a 2-1 Ivy-opening win over visiting Princeton on Saturday afternoon. Hood scored both Dartmouth goals in the victory over the 19th-ranked Tigers, snapping Princeton’s 24-game Ivy win streak. A day later, Hood scored a goal in Dartmouth’s 5-2 win against Bryant.
Hood’s first goal against Princeton helped the senior break the program's all-time record for career points and she now has 118 in her three plus seasons with the Big Green. Hood, who leads the League in goals and points, is the first Dartmouth player to earn Ivy League Player of the Week honors since Nov. 2, 2010, when Lisa Masini shared the award.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
After a 2-1 win over Princeton to open Ivy play on Saturday, Dartmouth freshman forward Ali Savage (Orange, New South Wales, Australia) ensured the Big Green would end the weekend with a 2-0 record when she scored three goals in Dartmouth’s 5-2 win over Bryant on Sunday. Her second goal of the game proved to be the game winner. Entering the game, Savage had just one goal on the season but she then scored the first Big Green hat trick of the season.
Savage, who also played 53 minutes in the Big Green’s win over Princeton, is Dartmouth’s first Ivy League Rookie of the Week since Samantha McPherson shared the honor on Nov. 3, 2009.
