Princeton and Yale are 2011 Ivy League Field Hockey Co-Champions
PRINCETON, N.J. -- Princeton and Yale earned wins over the weekend en route to being named 2011 Ivy League Co-Champions in field Hockey. The Tigers, who downed Penn 3-0 on Friday night, and Bulldogs, who defeated Brown 7-0 on Saturday afternoon, both finished with 6-1 records in Ivy play to share the 2011 title.
The 2011 marks Princeton's seventh in a row, while Yale has a share of the title for the first time since 1980. All told, the Tigers have won 20 Ivy League Championships and Yale has now captured two. Due to Princeton's 3-2 win over Yale on Sept. 24, the Tigers earned the League's automatic bid to the NCAA Championship.
As the automatic Ivy qualifier, Princeton will play host to Northeast Conference tourament champion Rider at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 8 in an NCAA Championship play-in game. Rider downed Monmouth, 2-1, on Saturday afternoon in the NEC championship game.
