PRINCETON, N.J. -- Another non-conference week
saw positive results for the Ivy League field hockey squads, as
Princeton kept on rolling with a pair of victories, 3-2 in overtime
over No. 8 Penn State and 2-1 over Richmond. Thanks to their 4-0-0
record, including three wins over ranked opponents, the Tigers
moved from No. 4 in the national rankings to No. 2, a program-best.
Columbia also posted two wins last week, defeating Bucknell, 2-0,
and setting a program record with eight goals in an 8-3 win over La
Salle.
In its only game last week, Brown defeated Colgate, 4-2, behind a
pair of goals from sophomore Clayton Christus.
Penn split its two games last week, beating Liberty, 5-4, before
falling to Appalachian State in overtime, 3-2. That same Nittany
Lions squad that fell to Princeton had their hands full with
Cornell, but the Big Red eventually lost, 2-0. Harvard also faced a
tough schedule, including a 3-0 setback to No. 17 Boston
College.
Ivy League play kicks off this week, as the eight teams will
square off against each other on Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday,
Penn travels to Cornell, Dartmouth heads to Princeton and Harvard
hosts Yale, while on Sunday, Brown takes on Columbia.
CO-PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
A pair of seniors led their respective teams to a pair of
victories each last week, as Columbia forward Gabby
Kozlowski (Vorhees, N.J.) and Princeton midfielder
Katie Reinprecht (North Wales, Pa.) each were
instrumental in their teams’ 2-0-0 weeks.
Kozlowski finished with seven points on three goals and one assist
as the Lions took down Bucknell and La Salle. She iced the victory
for the Lions over the Bison with a goal in the 40th minute and
then contributed to three of Columbia’s program-record eight
goals against La Salle with two goals and an assist. For the
season, Kozlowski leads Columbia with 10 points on four goals and
two assists. She has 34 career goals, six shy of Columbia's career
mark of 40 held by Nikki Campbell. The last four
Ivy League weekly awards that Columbia has received have all gone
to Kozlowski, who earned Player of the Week once each in 2011 and
2010 and Rookie of the Week in 2009.

Reinprecht finished with five points on two goals and one assist
in Princeton’s 2-0-0 week that included a 3-2 victory over
No. 8 Penn State. She scored the game’s first goal against
the Nittany Lions. In the Tigers’ 2-1 win over Richmond,
Reinprecht was a factor in both of her team’s goals, scoring
the first and assisting on the second.
Reinprecht earns her third career Ivy League Player of the Week
award and her first since Oct. 5, 2010, after taking last season
off to train with the U.S. National Team. Her award gives Princeton
back-to-back Player of the Week honors after senior
Kathleen Sharkey earned the accolade last week. It
marks the first time Princeton earned consecutive Player of the
Week awards since Sharkey earned two-straight on Oct. 13 and 20,
2009.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
With 10 goals in two games for Columbia, there was more than
enough to go around, and freshman Anna Scipioni
(Palmyra, Pa.) made sure she got in on the action. She scored two
goals on two shots during the week, including a goal apiece in each
of the Lions’ two wins. Her score against Bucknell proved to
be the eventual gamewinner and her tally against La Salle put
Columbia up, 3-0.
Scipioni is Columbia’s first Rookie of the Week since
Kozlowski took home the award on Oct. 27, 2009.
