NFHCA All-Region Teams Announced, 18 Ivies Honored
Columbia Release | Cornell Release | Dartmouth Release | Princeton Release | Yale Release
PRINCETON, N.J. -- Five Ivy League teams and 18
Ivies were recognized on the 2012 Longstreth/National Field Hockey
Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division I All-Region Teams, which were
announced Thursday.
The League saw eight of its players earn first team status; they
are eligible for NFHCA All-American honors, to be announced on
Tuesday, Nov. 20.
Princeton led the way with 10 total honorees in the Mid-Atlantic
Region, including six on the first team. The Tigers had the most
total and most first-team All-Region recipients of any school in
any of the five regions. In fact, Princeton by itself tallied more
All-Region honors than four conferences (Mid-American, Northeast,
NorPac and Patriot League) and matched the total of the Atlantic
10.
The three League postseason award winners, Princeton seniors
Kathleen Sharkey (Offensive Player of the Year)
and Katie Reinprecht (Defensive Player of the
Year) and freshman Teresa Benvenuti (Rookie of the
Year) were joined on the Mid-Atlantic first team by Tigers’
juniors Michelle Cesan, Christina
Maida and Julia Reinprecht. For K.
Reinprecht and Sharkey, it marked the fourth time of their career
they earned first-team All-Region honors.
The Tigers also placed four players on the second team, including
junior Amanda Bird and sophomore Sydney
Kirby, who each took home their second-straight such
awards. They were joined on the second team by senior Amy
Donovan and sophomore Allison Evans.
Five Ivies were recognized in the Mideast Region. Columbia senior
Gabby Kozlowski was named to the first team for
the first time in her career after earning second team honors each
of the past two seasons. Lions’ senior Katie
DeSandis, Cornell juniors Hannah Balleza
and Carolyn Horner and Yale senior Mary
Beth Barham were each named to the second team for the
first NFHCA accolades of their careers.
Dartmouth put three players on the Northeast Region teams.
Sophomore Ali Savage was named to the first team,
while junior Olivia Quaglia and senior
Lisa Masini each earned second team honors. For
Masini, it was the second-straight season she received the
award.
