PRINCETON, N.J. -- Former Princeton standouts Katie Reinprecht ’13 and Kathleen Sharkey ’13, members of the U.S. Field Hockey National Team, have helped Team USA earn a berth to the 2014 World Cup following a successful silver medal finish at the Pan American Cup in Mendoza, Argentina.
The Tiger duo were integral parts in Team USA going 3-0 in group play and earning a place in the semifinals versus Canada on Sept. 26.
Reinprecht scored the game-winner and Sharkey added an insurance goal in the American’s dominating 4-0 win over the Canadians to advance to the finals.
Two days later, the U.S. squared off with rival and host-Argentina, but ultimately came away with a 1-0 defeat.
“We have an ongoing rivalry with Argentina within international competition,” said Reinprecht. “The match wasn't any less intense than what we expected.”
With the second-place finish, Team USA earned a spot in the World Cup hosted next summer in The Hague, Netherlands.
