PRINCETON, N.J. -- Recent 2013 Princeton graduates Katie Reinprecht and Kathleen Sharkey have been named to the U.S. Field Hockey National Team 18-player roster for the upcoming Pan American Cup. The tournament will run from Sept. 21-28 in Mendoza, Argentina.
2012 Olympian Reinprecht has been a staple on the senior national team over the last three years, most recently competing at the World League Semifinals in June.
A multi-year member of the senior team as well, Sharkey was named to her first competition roster since the 4-Nations Tournament in Spain in February 2012.
The winner of the Pan Am Cup will receive an automatic berth into the 2014 World Cup in The Hague, Netherlands. The U.S. did not qualify in 2010 and finished in sixth place at the 2006 World Cup.
Team USA opens the Pan Ams in Pool B with Chile, Mexico and Uruguay. The squad kicks off with Mexico on Sept. 21 at 2:30 p.m. ET, followed by Chile the next day at 2:30 p.m. ET and Urguay on Sept. 24 at 5 p.m. ET to wrap up the group stage. The semifinals are on Sept. 26 and finals on Sept. 28.
The U.S. has won silver in 2001, 2004 and 2009 at the Pan Am Cup, coming up second to Argentina each time.
