Former Radcliffe oarswoman Laura Larsen-Strecker '08 and former Harvard rower Henrik Rummel '09 won gold medals for the United States Sunday at the 2009 World Rowing Championships. In total, four former Crimson/Radcliffe rowers earned medals.

Brown's van Knotsenburg Leads Canada to Silver
Former Brown rower Steve van Knotsenburg and the Canadian National Team 8+ placed second at the 2009 World Championships, rowing a 5:27.15. Sitting bow, he and teammates jumped out to a fast start, and held second place throughout the race, holding off charges from Poland and Holland.

Penn's Francia Doubles Up at Worlds
Penn graduate Susan Francia earned a pair of gold medals this past weekend at the World Rowing Championships in Poznan, Poland. The 2008 Beijing Olympic champion paired with Erin Cafaro to earn gold in the Women's pair before dismantling the competition in the Women's 8.

Cornell Trio Take Silver at Worlds
Three Cornell rowers — Andrew Diebold ’06, Matt Kochem ’08, and Kerry Quinn ’10 — won silver medals this weekend as they represented the United States as members of men’s lightweight-8 boat at the World Rowing Championships in Poznan, Poland.

Original owner and Olympic gold medal skipper Dr. Britton Chance (Penn '35) re-christened Complex II, the 1952 Olympic Gold Medal champion 5.5 metre sailboat, in Newport, R.I. at the International Yacht Restoration School.

Curtis Jordan, the all-time winningest coach in the 130 years of Princeton heavyweight crew, retires after 19 years as head coach and nearly three decades associated with Tiger rowing.

Two Ivies Crowned Champions at Henley
Two Ivy League rowing squads won titles at the historic Henley Royal Regatta over the weekend. Brown University "A" landed the Ladies' Plate Crown while Princeton University took down Bruno in the head-to-head All-Ivy final in the Temple Challenge Cup. In all, five teams made the finals at Henley.

Seven crews with ties to the Ivy League will soon be in action at the Henley Royal Regatta on the River Thames. The regatta starts on July 1st, 2009 and lasts for five days. Races are head-to-head knockout competitions, raced over a 1-mile course by the town of Henley-on-Thames, England.
