Wittman Earns All-District Honors

ITHACA, N.Y. -- Sophomore forward Ryan Wittman became the 10th player in Cornell men's basketball history to be named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches All-District team, earning a second-team nod for District 2. Wittman is the first Big Red player to be honored since Ka'Ron Barnes was also a second-team pick in 2004.

Wittman is averaging 15.3 points and a career-high 4.3 rebounds, while shooting 48 percent from the floor overall and 47 percent from 3-point range. Since the beginning of Ivy League play, Wittman has lifted his game even more. He ranks third in the conference in scoring (16.3 ppg.) and leads in 3-pointers per game (2.5) in league contests and ranks among the top 10 in fi eld goal percentage (third, .504), 3-point fi eld goal percentage (fifth, .441) and defensive rebounds (ninth, 4.33).The 6-6 Wittman has hit for double fi gures in 22 of his 25 games this season and in 47 of 53 games overall for his career. Wittman was named Ivy League Player of the Week on Feb. 11 after averaging 22.5 points and 7.0 rebounds in a sweep on perennial Ivy leaders Penn and Princeton.

Cornell's other all-district honorees are Roger Chadwick (honorable mention in 1952), Lee Morton (1954), Jack Sheehy (1955), Louis Jordan (honorable mention in 1958), Jim Morris (second team in 1967), Hank South (third team in 1968), Gregg Morris (third team in 1968), John Bajusz (second team in 1987) and Barnes.

Wittman and the Big Red return to action on Friday, March 7 at 8 p.m. when it meets Penn at the Palestra.
