PRINCETON, N.J. -- It's hoops time again in the Ivy League as its eight men's basketball teams hit the court Friday, Oct. 15 for their first team practices of the 2010-11 season.
Coming off a thrilling conclusion to the 2009-10 season that saw Cornell make a Cinderella run to the Sweet 16, the 2010-11 edition of Ivy men's basketball will feature some new faces manning the sidelines -- in Columbia's Kyle Smith, Cornell's Bill Courtney and Dartmouth's Paul Cormier with Penn's Jerome Allen entering his first full season at the helm after spending half of last season as the Quakers' interim coach -- and some familiar faces on the hardwoods.
Preseason honors have been abound for the League, including Columbia junior guard Noruwa Agho and Penn senior guard Zack Rosen being named to the preseason All-Ivy first teams by four different publications with Rosen being selected the preseason Player of the Year selection by Athlon Sports and Blue Ribbon College Basketball Yearbook. Harvard sophomore forward Kyle Casey and Princeton junior guard Doug Davis were named to preseason All-Ivy first teams by three different publications with Casey also honored as a "Player to Watch" by Yahoo! Sports. Cornell junior guard Chris Wroblewski was named the Sporting News' preseason prediction as the League's top player, which also named him to its preseason All-Ivy first team as did Lindy's and Rivals.com.
Princeton was the near unanimous choice to win the Ivy League this season having been selected to the top spot by Athlon's, Blue Ribbon, Lindy's and Rivals.com. The Tigers are coming off a 22-9 finish last season, the team's most wins since 1999, and a run to the semifinals of the College Basketball Invitational.
