Brown Decides Not to Renew the Contract of Men’s Basketball Head Coach Jesse Agel

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Brown University Director of Athletics Michael Goldberger announced today that the contract of head men’s basketball coach Jesse Agel would not be renewed. Agel's contract expires June 30, 2012.
"I want to thank Jesse for his six years of service to Brown, its basketball program and our student-athletes," said Goldberger.
Agel has been the head coach at Brown for the last four years, after working as an assistant coach on the Brown staff for two seasons. He posted a four-year 39-79 overall record, including a 14-42 Ivy League mark.Agel’s 2011-2012 team posted a record of 8-23, with a 2-12 Ivy League record.
As head coach at Brown, Agel recruited 2010-11 Ivy League Rookie of the Year Sean McGonagill '14, and honorable mention All-Ivy Tucker Halpern '13. He also brought in Matthew Sullivan '13, a third team CoSIDA Academic All-American.
Agel came to Brown from the University of Vermont where he was an assistant coach for 17 years, the last eight as associate head coach. He helped coach the Catamounts to three NCAA Tournament appearances.
Brown associate head coach TJ Sorrentine will
take over on an interim basis.
