PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Yale senior center Greg Mangano (Orange, Conn.)
ut up another big week leading into the Ivy League season,
averaging 31 points and 17.5 rebounds in the Bulldogs’ final
two non-conference games. Mangano’s 22 rebounds against St.
Joseph’s (L.I.) were the most in a game by a Yale player
since Chris Dudley grabbed 22 against Harvard in 1987. He also
added a career-high 35 points, the second time in his career he has
reached the 30-point mark. Twenty of his points came in the second
half as the Bulldogs broke open a close game. Mangano was nearly as
dominant in the win over Holy Cross when he finished with 27
points, 13 rebounds and three blocks in the Yale win.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Dartmouth freshman forward Gabas Maldunas
(Panevezys, Lithuania) did all he could to help Dartmouth pull off
upsets against both Bucknell and Harvard. First against the Bison,
he registered his third double-double of the season with 15 points
and 10 rebounds, connecting on a season-high seven field goals
including his first career three-pointer. His 10 boards were more
than a third (27) of the Big Green’s total as well. Then in
Dartmouth’s Ivy League opener at Harvard, Maldunas poured in
15 more points and hauled in a game-high nine rebounds, narrowly
missing out on another double-double. Five of his rebounds came at
the offensive end helping Dartmouth outscore the Crimson on
second-chance attempts.
