NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- The Yale men's basketball season will continue. The Bulldogs have accepted an invitation to participate in the 2012 CollegeInsider.com Tournament. Yale will play Fairfield in the first round on Wednesday, Mar. 14 at 7 p.m. at the Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport.

It will be the Bulldogs' first trip to the postseason since 2001-02 when they played in the NIT. Yale beat Rutgers, the first postseason tournament victory in school history, in the first round before falling to Tennessee Tech in the second round at the New Haven Coliseum.

The Bulldogs were invited to the College Basketball Invitational last year but had to decline because several players were overseas on pre-arranged educational trips.

"It's an honor to be asked to participate in March Madness," said James Jones, The Joel E. Smilow, Class of 1954 Head Coach of Men's Basketball. "It's a great step for our program to have been invited the last two years."

Yale brings a 19-9 overall record into the game, the program's best season since winning 21 games during the 2001-02 season. Greg Mangano earned first team All-Ivy honors for the second straight year after leading the league in rebounding (9.7 rpg) and blocks (64) and placing second in scoring with 18.7 ppg. Reggie Willhite, a second team All-Ivy selection, was named the Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year.

Fairfield enters the postseason with a 19-14 overall record after advancing to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) championship game on Monday night.  Senior Rakim Sanders and junior Desmond Wade earned a spot on the MAAC All-Tournament team. Sanders enters postseason as the team's top scorer and rebounder with 16.8 points and 8.3 rebounds per game. Ryan Olander is next in line with 8.8 points and 4.6 rebounds per contest.

Ticket prices are $15 for adults and $9 for seniors, youth (12 and under), and college students with ID. Groups of 10 or more can purchase tickets for $5 per person. Seats will be general admission. Please check www.fairfieldstags.com for the on-sale date and time.

The CIT reseeds after each round so who the winner of Wednesday's game plays will be determined at a later date. The second round is set for March 16-18. The quarterfinals are March 19-21, the semifinals are March 22-24 and the championship game is set for March 28.
