PRINCETON, N.J. -- Ivy League men's basketball has its final non-conference games of the season sandwiching a conference tripleheader to close out the first month of 2013.
Penn takes the short trip across town on Wednesday to take on Temple in a Big 5 battle at the Liacouras Center.
Saturday sees a threesome of travel-partner return games as Harvard hosts Dartmouth, Yale welcomes in Brown and Columbia clashes with Cornell. The League's presence on the NBC Sports Network continues as the Dartmouth-Harvard game is slated for a mid-afternoon tip on the network.
On Sunday, Princeton comes off its 15-day exam break to face The
College of New Jersey as the Tigers' final tune-up before "The
14-Game Tournament" kicks into high gear.
All eight Ivy League coaching staff have signed on to participate
in the 2013 Coaches vs. Cancer Suits and Sneakers awareness weekend
to be held Jan. 25-27. The Penn coaching staff donned their
sneakers for the Quakers' Jan. 19 against Saint Joseph's since the
team is idle this weekend.
Suits and Sneakers is a national Coaches vs. Cancer event that
is designed to raise awareness about the fight against cancer and
the American Cancer Society by encouraging member coaches and their
coaching staffs to wear sneakers with their suits at games held
that weekend to show support for the Coaches vs. Cancer program. By
wearing sneakers, participating coaches help raise awareness about
cancer and the importance that nutrition and physical activity play
in reducing one's risk of the disease. Additionally, this weekend
helps promote the American Cancer Society as a place for people
facing cancer to turn for free information, day-to-day help, and
emotional support.
CO-PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
Brown junior guard Sean McGonagill (Brookfield,
Ill.) was the difference in Bears' hard-fought win over Yale,
scoring 20 points and coming up with big shot after big shot.
McGonagill connected on 8-of-15 field goals, including 4-of-7 from
behind the three-point arc, pulled down five rebounds, and handed
out four assists. With the ball in his hands for 38 minutes, he
committed zero turnovers. McGonagill helped Brown take control of
the game at the outset of the second half, scoring eight points in
a 16-3 Brown run that gave the Bears their biggest lead at
49-28.

Columbia senior center Mark Cisco (Chester,
N.J.) tied a career-high with 18 points and pulled down a game-high
nine rebounds in the Lions' Ivy League-opening win at Cornell.
Cisco scored six of his points during a key 13-0 run in the second
half that effectively put the game out of reach. Throughout the
game, he was able to find open areas on the floor, due to the
penetration of Columbia’s guards, and all seven of his field
goals were assisted by a member of the backcourt.
