Capital One Academic All-District Recognition Rolls In for Three Men's Basketball Ivies

PRINCETON, N.J. -- A trio of Ivy League men's basketball student-athletes -- Brown junior forward Rafael Maia, Dartmouth sophomore guard Connor Boehm and Yale junior forward Matt Townsend -- were named Capital One Academic All-District® first team in District 1, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
As first-team Academic All-District® honorees, Maia, Boehm and Townsend advance to the Capital One Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
A Business concentrator with a 3.71 grade point average, Maia (Sao Paulo) was the Ivy League's top rebounder a year ago at 7.5 per game and currently ranks second in the conference at 8.4 boards per contest. He has led the Bears in rebounding in nine of 14 games so far this season.
Boehm (Winnetka, Ill.) sports a 3.60 GPA and is second on the Big Green with 11.1 points and 5.8 rebounds per game. A career 50.1 percent shooter, the product of New Trier High School leads the Ivy League in field goal percentage (.563), ranks 10th in rebounding and 16th in scoring.
In the classroom, Townsend (Chappaqua, N.Y.) has a 4.0 GPA through five semesters and was elected to Yale's Phi Beta Kappa society. On the court, he has made solid contributions for the Bulldogs, currently sixth on the team in scoring (4.6 ppg) and rebounding (3.1 rpg).
