SPRINGFIELD, N.J. -- Columbia shot a blistering four-under par 276 as a team Saturday on Baltusrol's Lower Course to grab the lead after two rounds in the Ivy League Men's Golf Championship.
The Lions had sub-par rounds from Brandon Jowers (69), Christopher Chu (68) and Tharusyan Pillay (69) to forge an 11-shot lead over Yale and a 14-shot advantage over first round co-leader Harvard.
Jowers is third on the individual leaderboard, while Chu is fourth as the duo climbed into contention on Saturday. Nelson Hargrove, the co-leader after Friday's play, still sits atop the leaderboard. However, he finished play on Saturday sharing it with Cornell's Carl Shimenti. Shimenti shot even-par 70 on Saturday, while Hargrove shot a 72.
The duo sit at 142 after 36 holes, but that lead isn't a big one. Eight other players are within five shots of the lead heading into Sunday. There are seven teams with players in the Top 10, which should set up for a wild Sunday.
Chu's low round of the day featured four birdies and two bogeys. Sitting at one-over, he birdied Nos. 13 and 14 and then closed out the day with a birdie on No. 18 to finish the backside in 34. On Friday, Chu shot the back nine in 39 en route to a 76.
Sunday's final round gets underway at 8 am with tee times off No. 1.
